Check Out Tasha Juli’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Juli.

Hi Tasha Juli, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in the day, like a lot of girls I had a fashion blog. I was frequently approached by strangers on the street who asked about/complemented my own outfits. It gave me the confidence to start the blog.
Because I was essentially showcasing, my own looks, more and more effort, time and research went into planning my own style.
The blog transitioned to Instagram, which is how I got my very first client. A woman reached out to me via DM. She wanted to know if I would consider styling her! Of course, I have been styling myself for years, but other than helping out the occasional friend put together a look to go out, I hadn’t considered styling someone else professionally.
Styling her was the first drop in the bucket toward my evolution in becoming a full-time fashion stylist.
My client base expanded rather quickly through the network of women I had been styling. It seems as if almost all of them told a friend, neighbor or colleague about me. Which I’m so grateful for.
Then, the unthinkable happened! The pandemic.
During the time when everyone was wearing pajamas and sweatpants with no plans to leave their house, was a time of uncertainty for me professionally. But you know what they say about necessity being the mother of invention.
Once the world started to come back to life, but contact with others with still limited, I decided to offer my styling sessions virtually. I set up a website so that potential clients could book their own FaceTime sessions with me.
Nowadays, most of my sessions are done virtually.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been smooth sailing for the most part.
Minus the initial struggles of how I had to transition my business because of the pandemic. I think that was probably my biggest challenge.
Of course, I still struggle with something I think a lot of us feel regardless of our profession: am I good enough?
I feel gratitude every day for the wonderful community of women I have as a client base.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a fashion stylist, I feel most proud of my work when a client is genuinely happy, looks great, but feels like themselves in the looks we’ve created.
This year, my work took me to Atlanta as I had the opportunity to style some clients for the presidential debate. Something I never thought I’d be doing a few years ago!
What sets me apart is that for my clients who are public figures, I don’t believe in creating looks just for sensationalized attention. The publicity stunt of red carpet ridiculousness isn’t my niche. Instead, I prefer to style my clients in looks that are harmonious with who they are as a person.

I have a similar approach with my everyday clients. Fashion changes at such a rapid pace these days. Trying to keep up with the tornado of trends is a losing battle. I like to work in a collaborative way, using a bit of fashion psychology, as well as a few other secret steps to really help my clients hone in on who they are and combine that with who they want to be, in order to style them in a way that will have a wow factor, but also longevity.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t wait: there’s a misconception that someone would need to be in a place like LA or New York in order to work as a stylist. It is possible to get started wherever you are, especially with social media. If relocating isn’t an option right away, don’t let that stop you from getting started.

Do it for free (sometimes): Of course, we all need to make ends meet. But when you can take on a job that will pay dividends in either exposure, networking, or experience, do it!

Be nice: You never know when someone you’ve crossed paths with may have the opportunity to bring up your name, especially when it comes to a potential new client or job.
