Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Frankeberger.
Hi Spencer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I was younger, I wanted to be a theme park engineer, but I had the trifecta: I was terrible at physics, math, and definitely couldn’t draw, so that was certainly out of the question. However, at a young age, I discovered my fascination with movies, and throughout my schooling and beyond, I became obsessed with seeing as many movies as possible. I am a board-certified music therapist and, during my sophomore or junior year, while in a film committee (an extracurricular activity), someone came up to me and said, “You see a lot of movies; why aren’t you in film school?” And that’s when it hit me. Why did I NOT apply for film school for my undergraduate degree? Why did I not give the industry a chance? And that’s exactly what I did for my MFA. I applied for, was accepted, and went to Florida State University’s College of Motion Picture Arts, a.k.a. The Film School, which is one of the top 25 film schools in the nation–where I specialized in directing. From there, I moved out to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a casting director, but as I navigated the industry for the first couple of years, I decided my long-term goal is to be an actor/director.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I know everyone has their story of why it was hard, and I will leave it at this: I saw a lot of momentum in my career and a heightened trajectory at the beginning of 2020, especially in January and February. Due to a worldwide incident that started in March 2020, I felt that my trajectory was halted (as was everyone’s in this industry), and I feel that where I am in my career now — I had to restart at square one with my career trajectory, but the last quarter of 2025 has started to feel like momentum picking up again — so hopefully we are back on track with this career longevity and career trajectory!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actor/director who has some experience with improv — I graduated from the ComedySportz LA, UCB, Second City Hollywood, and iO West programs.
Some of my recent credits include:
-Late Night with Chucky (Actor, Universal Studios Hollywood/HHN)
-Blow the Man Down: A Sea Shanty Concert (Producer & Performer)
-The Infinite Husk (Actor – Premiered at SXSW 2025)
-Process, Book It, and Summer Camp (Improviser, Impro Theatre)
-Let’s Write a Musical! (Actor, LA Premiere Musical)
-Being a Fantasy Football commissioner for a couple leagues (Y’all I’m very heavily in my sports era right now!)
I will be making my Off-Broadway debut in NYC this May, am currently in the process of turning my sold out Fringe run of Blow the Man Down: A Sea Shanty Concert into a full-length musical, and have a small role in a popular network TV series in 2026 (keep an out on your streamers and see if you can spot me!).
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Oh I will say as a Capricorn and an INFJ, I find networking to be really hard and difficult to navigate, especially when I think about networking at a networking event or when meeting up with colleagues or friends for lunch. When I take out the idea of “networking” at a specific event, it makes it so much easier. It sets the bar low and also takes the pressure off. Highly recommend thinking of a networking event as a time to just hang out and have fun (and somehow meeting folks and actually networking without thinking about it).
