Check Out Sean Hurd’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Hurd

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I found it difficult to see beyond the scope of my hometown, a small city off the central California coast. However, purchasing my first camera really sparked my interest in art and allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone. Taking pictures has led to incredible opportunities and introduced me to countless wonderful places. This inspired me to pursue cinematography as my degree and see where photography and videography take me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Over the years, I have struggled with feeling a sense of security in the world of film. Although I have worked on film sets since the age of 17, I have trouble feeling as though I belong in my line of work. While I recognize that this challenge exists with all creative endeavors, trying to break into this industry here in Los Angeles as a young person has proven to be especially difficult. Despite the challenge, I will persevere, knowing that I will find my place sooner or later. Because I will soon graduate with a BA in cinematography, I will have much more time to focus my efforts in the field.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am very proud of my creative vision when it comes to abstract photography. I have transformed many unassuming photographs into something uniquely mine. I achieve the final products entirely without the use of Photoshop, which is also something I take pride in. I have been developing this style of photography for quite some time now, and although there is still a long way to go, I am happy with its current progression and the unique patterns and skills I have picked up along the way.

How do you think about happiness?
Connecting with people, especially those who have experiences outside of my realm of understanding, fascinates me. Thankfully, university has allowed me the opportunity to connect with many different people, who I cherish as friends and have reinforced this belief. My sense of creativity also makes me happy.
