Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarahlyn.
Hi Sarahlyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been part of my life. I grew up in a very musical household, and that naturally led me into studying music more deeply in school. I actually started my journey as a trombone player before transitioning into composition, arranging, and eventually discovering my love for singing, songwriting, and vocal production. Music quickly became my personal language, my way of communicating, reflecting, and sharing parts of myself with others.
Over time, through lots of networking, small performances, and meeting the right people, doors slowly started to open. That process eventually led me to begin recording my own music. I released my very first single, “I’m Lovin’ Me,” this past November, which marks the start of many more releases to come. The first half of my album is scheduled for 2026, and the second half the year after, along with a few holiday songs I’m especially excited about. I’m grateful for every step of this journey and can’t wait to see where the music takes me next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Learning how the music industry actually works and finding the right team of people took time, and a lot of trial and error. It’s also easy to feel discouraged, especially when you’re trying to build something from the ground up.
But I constantly remind myself that I’m not making music to please everyone. Music is my personal way of expressing what I’m going through, and I love writing lyrics that others can find comfort or connection in. Every challenge has pushed me to grow, both creatively and personally, and I’m grateful for that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My name is Sarahlyn, and I am an independent artist and “groove-writer.” I’m a songwriter, composer, arranger, vocal producer, and musician, and I love being deeply involved in every layer of the creative process.
What I’m most proud of is letting the music guide the arrangement. I don’t like being placed in a genre box, and this project really reflects that. Each song blends different influences; soul, R&B, pop, funk, gospel, but still carries something uniquely “me.”
I think what sets me apart is my musical upbringing. Playing trombone from childhood through university exposed me to so many genres and gave me the full “musician experience.” That background really shapes the way I hear melodies, grooves, and harmonies. I’m a sucker for big arrangements; strings, horns, unexpected textures, and I love giving musicians creative freedom in the studio. Of course, I come in with charts and ideas, but hearing their interpretation brings the music to life. I genuinely love the entire process of watching a single idea grow into a fully produced song.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love being born and raised in Los Angeles, something I’m realizing is more rare the more people I meet in the industry. LA is full of incredible musicians, artists, and creatives, which keeps me grounded and inspired. There’s always something happening: shows, jams, writing sessions, networking events… and every genre has a place here. My playlist jumps all over the place, and LA supports that.
Beyond the music, LA is culturally rich. Every neighborhood has different food, people, energy, and hidden spots that only locals know about. It’s a beautiful mix of everyone’s backgrounds.
If I had to pick something I like least, it would definitely be the traffic, but honestly, I don’t mind long drives. Some of my best songwriting happens in the car. So even with its quirks, I’m grateful to call LA home while pursuing my dream.
