Check Out Sarah Silverman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Silverman.

Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a passionate home cook, a musician and a busy mother of two! I was inspired to start Canyon Kitchen in my home because of my children. I wanted to provide the most nourishing foods possible, and I wanted to foster their connection with food, the seasons and the earth.

When my kids began school, I was distressed by the highly processed sugary foods that were regularly brought into the classrooms. I knew that I could create delicious treats simply sweetened with dates and bananas that all the kids would love! I knew this partly because of the wisdom passed down to me by my grandmother and my mother, but also because of my own curiosity and experimentation in the kitchen.

In my first year of Canyon Kitchen, an entire class of kindergarten children became my eager taste testers and biggest fans! Every new recipe I developed was inspired by the children, the local farmer’s markets and the wild plants and herbs that grow in our canyon.

Over the past few years, I have baked for farmer’s markets, Hollywood TV sets (Modern Family, Dead To Me), school lunch programs, coffee shops and my local neighborhood community. When the world shut down due to COVID 19, I expanded my menu to include soups, elixirs and other vegetarian dishes – providing much needed nourishment for my local community. I also began teaching some of my recipes and methods in live zoom classes, which inspired me to begin re-imagining the future of Canyon Kitchen.

Canyon Kitchen has now transitioned into a virtual space and I am thrilled to launch my new subscription program: Monthly Nourishment For Body & Soul. Through monthly recipes and video tutorials, I am able to share the essence of Canyon Kitchen – food made by hand, infused with love, honouring the wisdom of nature.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is continuously evolving and has definitely had its ups and downs. One of my challenges was figuring out the best way to get my products to the most amount of people – this meant trying everything from farmers markets to local school festivals, subscription delivery services, wholesale, and Hollywood craft services.

My vision for the business has also transformed over the past couple of years. So while I began as a physical space where customers could place orders, I have now transitioned to an online space where I am teaching my recipes and methods through a monthly subscription program. This has been an incredible way for me to scale my business and to reach people all over the world instead of just in my local community.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the founder of Canyon Kitchen and creator of an online baking and cooking subscription program called Monthly Nourishment For Body & Soul. Through monthly recipes and video tutorials, I help people grow a delicious collection of recipes designed to transform their kitchen experience!

I am known for creating easy healthy recipes that are first and foremost delicious and that also happen to be vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, and have zero added sugar! I am able to create such yummy recipes because I am guided by some simple core beliefs:

First, I don’t believe nature should be messed with! Whether I’m picking an orange off a tree or pulling a carrot from the ground, I believe everything we need to make delicious, vibrant food is already all around us!

Second, I believe in recipes that are simple, easy, and adaptable. Recipes that celebrate the seasons without the use of any added sugars or other processed ingredients.

Keep it whole, keep it simple, keep it delicious. This is my mantra and it is infused into all of Canyon Kitchen’s recipes, and it is these recipes that make Canyon Kitchen so unique.

Our muffins, cakes and cupcakes are unparalleled in texture and taste – the secret lies in a magical combination of whole fruits and veggies at the core of each recipe.

Our soups, salads and side dishes honour and celebrate the seasons!

All recipes are kid-approved and vegetarian, with simple vegan and gluten-free variations.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
“Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer is such an incredibly inspiring book. Igniting our connection with nature and the seasons is such an important focus for me.

Everyone morning, I hike the hills in my neighborhood, listening to podcasts! Some of my favorites include:
