Check Out Sani Baladi’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sani Baladi

Sani, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a film composer, songwriter, and singer working in both, the film and the music industry. My musical journey began in Hamburg, Germany, where as a child, I discovered my passion for music. What started with singing in a choir and learning a few instruments, soon evolved into a solo career, where I began writing my own pop songs. With a background in classical music, I always remained connected to my origins, blending these influences as I grew older. This fusion of classical and pop eventually led me into the world of film scoring, a path that would bring me across the globe to Los Angeles.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never been easy, and I constantly face challenges but every setback has only made me stronger and shaped who I am today. I’ve faced failure, self-doubt, and countless obstacles, including people who not only fail to share my vision but actively try to mislead me. These struggles have been part of the journey. A funny story: just last week, my Uber driver asked me what I do for a living. When I told him I was a musician, he responded, “Don’t you want to make your dad proud and study something ‘proper’ like business or law?” I had to laugh. At the same time, I was speechless—how could someone who just met me three minutes ago presume to judge me, or my family? It’s a reminder that dealing with these kinds of people never really stops and that it should never have an impact on you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in composing music for film while also working as a songwriter across various genres and as a singer. This combination of roles defines who I am as an artist. I draw influences from different sources, blending different genres and cultures to create my own soundscape. I constantly experiment and travel to different parts of the globe to immerse myself in the local music and culture. I believe it’s important for a musician to keep an open mind and never stop learning.

Throughout my career, I’ve experienced many proud moments. One of the most memorable was hearing my film score for the first time in a theater. Another highlight was receiving calls from friends and family excitedly sharing that they heard my music on the radio.

What matters most to you? Why?
This is a big question and I could write a whole book about it but I try to make it short. Family and loved ones are what matter most to me. Being able to share laughter and joy with them and create memories together means everything to me. My mom has always been my biggest supporter, and when she’s happy, I’m happy.
Oh, and dogs matter to me, I love dogs!
