Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Reckmeyer
Hi Samantha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started making jewelry about a year ago under the guidance of two extremely talented female jewelers. Immediately I fell in love with the craft and the process. Within the 6 months I was working with them I went from knowing nothing about making jewelry to creating pieces I had dreamed about wearing. Since then Ive slowly worked on my craft, but am currently in the process of diving back into my work at full force.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has been a rocky road. I’ve moved around a lot since those 6 months of learning in Italy, so the largest struggle has been finding the space, materials and time in order to create. A huge roadblock has been myself as well, negotiating my time and making excuses, experiencing Luls of inspiration. I feel I finally have a new found passion and determination to push myself forward and make room for myself to get out of my own way, so looking forward to that and what I can accomplish in this new year.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is deeply rooted in philosophical ideas, cultural practices, rituals, and spirituality. I draw significant inspiration from exploring the traditions and beliefs of ancient civilizations, as well as from understanding the intricate connections between the human experience and the natural world—especially the life cycles of plants and animals and the symbiotic relationships that bind all living beings.
Through my work, I aim to create spaces and communities where people can come together, engage in meaningful conversations, and inspire one another. I believe there’s immense value in simply connecting with others and sharing ideas. We all have so much to learn—about ourselves, the world, and each other—and I strive to foster an environment where that exchange can flourish.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Jewelry may not be a basic necessity for survival, but its historical significance is profound and undeniable. Throughout human history, people have adorned themselves with jewelry not just for decoration, but as a powerful expression of status, identity, and cultural or religious affiliation. From ancient civilizations to modern societies, these adornments have served as symbols of personal and communal significance, reflecting the values, beliefs, and social structures of their time. Given this deep-rooted connection to human expression and culture, So I don’t see our relationship with jewelry diminishing anytime soon; it remains an enduring and meaningful part of who we are. But I do believe there will be a cultural switch from people wanting the “trendy item” to choosing items that are more long lasting and meaningful or puts them apart of a certain group, and I hope my jewelry can serve for people desiring those types of things.
