Check Out Ryan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan.

Hi Ryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Back in high school I need to take an art class and really just wanted to take the easiest thing possible. I saw photography as an option and figured all I had to do was point my camera at something and shoot, right? Within the first weeks of class I realized how much enjoyment I was getting out of using my creativity. I ended up taking two years of photography and buying a camera of my own that I took on all of my travels.

Fast forward about 10 years to when I started dating my wife, she was looking at my photographs and started telling me I should start my own photography business. In those months she was encouraging me to do start a business, some friends were going to get engaged and they asked me if I could shoot their engagement. I happily obliged and took photos of their moment and some more after the fact as well. After I sent them their edited photos they told me that the jeweler they used wanted the photos for their advertisements! My now wife used it as further encouragement that I should do something further with my camera.

Today, I have my own business where I am focusing on helping businesses tell their stories, which I am very excited about.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a photography business where I am helping small businesses is definitely not an easy road! Many business have partnered with marketing firms, have their own in-house teams, etc. All of that is okay because I would love to help businesses grow with my help. I want to understand their dreams, the passion behind what they are doing, and the stories behind their product. My favorite part of my business is seeing someone use one of my photos because they are using what I took and created and formatting it to their need. It is really cool to see the overlap in what I see through my camera and someone else’s goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Noony Photography Co. specializes in telling stories. I believe that everything we do have meaning and a reason. Take a movie as an example. If we watch the main character just ramble through a storyline the movie has no meaning almost. When we watch Luke Skywalker use the force to destroy the Death Star after watching him accept his role in the rebellion after being a nobody on a desert planet, we all cheer! We understand the story and become excited about the end goal.

I really want to help show a company’s brand. You have a cozy coffee shop that is inspired by Yosemite? Let’s show that off! You have a spooky themed brewery let’s create a creeping atmosphere. Your restaurant is based off of family recipes from your home country? Let’s celebrate that and invite others to partake in your culture.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Photography is a difficult area to predict, I believe. I remember when cameras were being put on iTouches and iPhones when I was younger. It seemed as if everyone was an aspiring photographer because you could take a photo, use a filter and put it on Instagram. Since then it seems that more areas of photography have been opened. More photography with influencers started to occur, more photos of food plates, and overall more photos being shared.

I really don’t know where photography is headed, but that is what I find so exciting about it. Photography can bring people who are unable to travel to the wilds of Tanzania or show off a new pizza parlor opening down the street. It is something that will grow, shift, and transport people.
