Check Out Robot Koch’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robot Koch.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I guess my life is a study in contrasts.

Raised in the same area of Germany as the Brothers Grimm — with its foggy forests and medieval castles — I now live in sunny Los Angeles. And although I lead an almost monk-like spiritual practice of yoga, meditation, and pranayama breathwork, I rely on digital technologies to produce deep, atmospheric electronic music.

That perspective — balancing ancient tradition with modern innovation, spirituality with science — lies at the heart of what I do.

And I´m happy to say it´s resonating with listeners across the globe. My music has been streamed more than 75 million times and can be heard on numerous films and television shows — including Netflix’s hit series You, ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, and Amazon’s We Children from Bahnhof Zoo.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There are always struggles. The biggest ones are doubt, fear, and not believing in yourself. But I realized again and again that the void of not knowing is not empty, but instead is really rich with potential. I always try to focus on the potential that is always there. No matter how disempowering a situation might seem, I think the inner attitude is a powerful tool to shift reality.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I`m an artist/composer and creator of immersive listening experiences.

I´ve been steadily crafting and refining my signature sound over the years that combines a deep and cinematic atmosphere, emotional reflection, and forward-thinking production, at least that’s what it´s been described as by journalists.

I like to experience all aspects of how sound can be portrayed and presented and let the audience experience it in different ways. Be it with eyes closed listening to a Dolby Atmos mix on headphones, or at a planetarium show, or in a philharmonic venue, I think there’s not just one-way music can be or should be experienced.”

In the past few years, I remixed the likes of Max Richter, Rammstein, and Christian Löffler, collaborated with Grammy-nominated Conductor Kristjan Järvi and the Nordic Pulse Orchestra, and played live shows at Coachella, Mutek, Sonar Festival, and Boiler Room and scored music for TV Shows, Film and Video Games.

I like to produce my audiovisual music as full immersive experiences, embracing technology like spatial audio and 360 visuals, VR.

For my immersive Full Dome Live Show “Sphere” which sold out in Planetariums and Festivals worldwide, my collaborator and me also several awards at film festivals including “best immersive experience” at the DTLA film festival.

For my upcoming album, I will do a special listening event here in LA, where people will float weightlessly in a floating tank listening to my album ahead of its release. Floatation Therapy is a unique tool that is highly effective at combating chronic stress and its associated conditions, so combining that with ambient music is an even more powerful experience. This will be an invite-only event, people can win tickets to that experience on my socials. Make sure to check out my Instagram to be able to get a free ticket to that immersive event.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Showing up every day, working on my art is the key I think. It´s part of my daily practice. Like Meditation. And it´s not up to me when or how people will discover my music. I just have to trust that they will connect with it when they are ready in their own time and space. And in the meantime, I just keep showing up every day in my studio and keep working on my music.
