Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Vivy Alatorre
Hi Olivia Vivy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in California and have lived in Pomona my whole life, really close to our downtown art scene. I have always been creative but I didn’t dive into the art community until after I graduated from college. It’s such a welcoming group, and once I met a few people, things just took off from there. With encouragement from my talented friends Raul Pizarro and Andy McCracken, I started creating more, showing my work, and eventually selling my creations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Unfortunately, my journey has been a bit rough because of my disease. There have been some scary medical moments that have changed the way I move through life. Luckily, I’ve learned to adapt and keep moving forward.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I paint and illustrate cute characters and funny sayings—stuff that a lot of people can relate to. Recently, I’ve started making decorative piñata head busts, and those have been so much fun to create. I guess what I’m most proud of isn’t what I’ve made, but that I keep on creating.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
One big takeaway from the Covid-19 crisis is the importance of creating a space in your home that acts as a mental getaway. It’s crucial to have a spot where you can stop, take a deep breath, and not feel like the walls are closing in. Having that space has really helped me keep anxiety at bay. Even though we can venture out now, I can’t always just get up and go on an adventure to de-stress.
