Today we’d like to introduce you to Nunzio Fazio And Bogdan Szumilas.
Hi Nunzio Fazio and Bogdan Szumilas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a classically trained singer. Trained by Gina Maretta who coached several superstars. I have played in many rock bands and sang acapella. I keep my voice in shape by singing in Karaoke bars until my next opportunity arises. These bars include The Naughty Pig on Sunset and Champs in Burbank. I also work as an actor, director and celebrity red carpet press photographer to stay busy. I have covered the Daytime Emmys, Sundance, the Makeup/Hair Academy awards and many other events.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life has presented its Challenges. Gina died in 2011, just as I thought my singing career was going to take off. So I went on a quest to find a new vocal coach (all singers have them including Pavarotti). In my quest to find a new coach, I found many bad ones. I came down with MTD (Muscle Tension Dysphonia) from studying with one coach. So I continued my quest to find a great coach and believe I have done so. You have to understand, when You’ve had the best vocal coach in the world, it becomes very hard to find someone of that caliper again. (Gina had coached Steve Perry, Gloria Estefan, Jon Sekada and Shakira. )
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of my singing voice. I have sung since I was five years old. It is the only real way that I communicate. My voice is unique, like velvet. It is clear, not raspy or forced. Creativity takes many forms. My acting, directing and photography skills also contribute to who I am.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
A friend of mine once said to me “Nunzio, God’s time.” In other words, don’t force that big break, it will arrive when God is ready. I was once represented as a Singer by A-Z Entertainment for a moment. Unfortunately, the manager that brought me in, had a falling out with them and I lost my representation. So I guess that wasn’t the right time. I also made a short film (Kenmore Ave) that screened for the Academy Awards and made the short list. Another film (Angst) won the Milan Awards. Yet, that big break as a director hasn’t occurred. So my biggest lesson is Patience.
