Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Blythe
Hi Nina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a small city in Massachusetts with a really close knit family, I was fortunate enough that my entire family – aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, grandparents all lived within a 10 minute drive from each other. My aunts owned a salon in my hometown and that’s where my passion for hair and all things beauty began. I remember being a young girl spendings some of my summer days in the salon with them, answering phones, sweeping hair, and playing with the nail tech’s paraffin wax. Fast forward to when I was 18 attending community college and feeling really unsure of what I wanted to do with my life, I decided to take the plunge and move to New York City and attend the Makeup Designory. After finishing their Master Make Up program I moved to California and attended Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School in San Diego where I realized I loved doing hair, and being in the salon was something that brought me so much joy. Shortly after graduating I moved to LA and started assisting at Nine Zero One Salon. Working under some of the most talented stylists in the country I really honed my craft and gained the experience I needed to grow my own clientele there. I am now taking clients at AM Salon as well as traveling back to the East Coast to accommodate clients. I am so grateful to have my passion as my career, and bring joy to women by making them feel beautiful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been very fortunate to have a fairly smooth road in my life/career, but that’s not to say I didn’t work my butt off for every opportunity I’ve gotten. Starting your career in a high end well know salon as an assistant is total culture shock and a lot of pressure, but it builds character and teaches you so much. I will be eternally grateful for that.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in lived in hair color, long layered cuts, and keratin tip extensions. I love being able to enhance someones natural color while giving them longevity with their color. I always like to say I want my clients to “come in because they want to not because they need to”, meaning their hair grow out beautifully after their appointment and they just come in for a refresh.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love this city because you can truly do something different every day if you wanted to. There is so many different restaurants to try, activities to do, concerts to see, if there’s something your looking for you will be able to find it somewhere in this city. With that being said getting around is another story the traffic is truly horrific.
