Check Out Neal Nieves’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neal Nieves.

Hi Neal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Phamily Clothes started kinda by a mistake, I would say. I planned on doing a clothing line about street life and I actually made about five shirts and my niece walked and said, “that’s dumb, you don’t do any of that you’re not in the streets do something you care about something about your family” so when she walked out, I took the word family and just added the PH. That’s how the brand Phamily was started.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, and yes. Struggles were and are having no business or fashion background at all and trying to learn it on the fly. I have a couple of mentors that I ask questions but none are in fashion. So just learning. Learning where to go to get shirts, learning where to go to get prints. So I’m not sure if it’s been a struggle cuz it’s really just been learning.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We print t-shirts with a word that’s misspelled but has a special meaning to just about everybody in some way. Most proud of watching the business grow and to keep expanding. I would say that and being able to sell some shirts and give back to our community. We were able to start a foundation called the Phamily foundation, where we have done turkey drives back to school drives Christmas tree giveaways and gifts and more. I would say that’s might proudest moment being about to give back to my community through the clothes.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Start. Don’t wait. Your gonna make mistakes. Keep going and stay consistent.
