Check Out Morgan Linson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Linson.

Hi Morgan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. By profession, I am a Registered Nurse, College Professor and Real Estate agent. In addition, I am the Founder/CEO of Mor Girls with Goals which is a nonprofit organization for youth girls and women ages 7-24 years old and small business owner of Mor Life which is a travel accessory company.

Nursing is my specialty and passion. At the age of 16 years old, I enrolled in a weekend course in High school to become a Certified Nursing Attendant. Shortly after I completed the program, I took the state board licensure to become a CNA and started working in the convalescent home immediately after graduating high school. After witnessing how the patients were cared for, I quickly learned that I wanted to do more than just render assistance to nurses…. I wanted to be a Nurse providing excellent care to patients! That desire fueled the fire to complete the schooling necessary to be what I wanted to be. I enrolled at Southwest College to complete my prerequisites required to enter the Nursing Program. While attending Southwest, I started working as a CNA at Harbor UCLA Medical Center and was promoted to an Administrative Secretary shortly after being hired. Not only did I successfully complete the prerequisites but I managed to graduate with an Associate’s of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I was accepted to the Registered Nurse program at Compton College where I obtained my Associate of Science degree in Nursing in 2013. Even after all that schooling, I still had resilience and determination to further my education. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, followed by a Master’s degree in Nursing with emphasis in Leadership and Healthcare Systems. I loved learning so much that I was able to accomplish all four degrees while working full-time. It was tough, but it was doable and I did it!

Once I had accomplished my educational aspirations, I felt it was time to celebrate my achievements and do what brought me much joy…. Which was TRAVEL!!!! Being proficient in my career and having financial security, gave me the freedom to move about the world easily and without hesitation. As a new traveler, I would solicit my friends to accompany me on trips, but it wasn’t always possible due to their kids, opposite schedules, and other obligations, amongst other factors. This dilemma prompted me to give solo travel a try, and the rest was history. I fell in love with the spontaneous and sporadic trips around the world in full appreciation of my own good company. It became a form of self-care that I needed to rejuvenate so that I could keep performing at my highest ability. Of course, I love to travel with a friend, loved one or companion, but it stopped becoming a requirement.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others is my dedication, determination and consistency. This year marks my 10 year anniversary as a Registered Nurse. I have been proudly working for the County of Los Angeles for 16 years. My job as a Professor for the past two years, contributing to the learning and development of future nurses has been a very rewarding journey. Having visited 66 countries around the world, I would consider myself an expert traveler. The knowledge that I acquired on my travels through trial and error, encouraged me to write a travel book that will be releasing this Spring. Be on the lookout for the Ultimate Experience…. It will provide all the information and insight you need to pack your bags and GO! If you are more of a visual person, you can head over to my Youtube channel Morgan the Explorer and check out my travel vlogs. My channel highlights various countries in Africa in order to encourage the diaspora to rid their minds of false information and experience the continent for themselves. More Girls with Goals is thriving and lives are being empowered and impacted. It has been amazing to see the positive influence and impression the organization has had on so many. We welcome all girls and young women to get involved. You can go to our website (www.morgirlswithgoals.org) for information.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being a nurse provided me the autonomy to indulge in travel, which became my hobby. My ambition provided me the desire to produce another stream of income and become a small business owner. Creating a business that had to do with traveling made perfect sense. So I started an online travel accessory called Mor Life. Mor life exudes everything travel, with emphasis on promoting comfort, organization and confidence on your journey.

Mor Life provides items such as packing cubes to organize your luggage, satin-lined hoodies and caps to preserve your hair from sweating out, memory foam neck pillows for sleeping upright on the plane, compression socks to prevent leg swelling and clot formations during long flights, passport covers to keep your travel documents safe, and more. I’m very enthusiastic about my brand and provide products for my customers that I love and desire as a traveler. You can get your products at https://www.morlife.shop

Outside of nursing and travel, my girls are very much a focus and priority. I founded a 501c3 nonprofit named More Girls with Goals in 2019 and act as the CEO of the organization. Being a young girl that grew up in poverty, dysfunction, and lack of resources, my goal was to be an example that the cycle can be broken and changed for the better. Monitorship and guidance is the heart of the approach in providing advocacy, knowledge and awareness for our youth. We provide monthly workshops and activities that promote financial literacy, career readiness, scholarships, exposure to international travel, expanding horizons, mental health, sex education and creating life experiences that will leave a lasting positive impression on their lives into adulthood, among other things. By giving girls the tools they need to overcome obstacles and challenges they face daily, a support system and connections with other like-minded girls and women within the organization is beneficial. I believe it is my duty to give back to the community and render the assistance that would’ve made my road to success smoother. In my experience, it is easier to prevent than it is to cure, and it is more effective to build strong girls than it is to repair broken women but it all can be done. We serve girls and young women ages 7-24 years old.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My view on risk taking is; when you take the risk on yourself you will feel less regret if you don’t get the outcome you were seeking! So often, people take risks for other people, to gain popularity and to win approval, among other reasons. When the risk turns out to not outweigh the benefit, the only person who feels the remorse and consequences is yourself. Those very people that you were trying to appease end up not even being phased by the risk you took to secure their attention. However, when you take the risk on yourself, whatever the outcome may be you will be content because you know it was to better yourself. I am an example that when you take a risk on yourself in good faith and good works, you will benefit in the long run. Many people see my success and my travels across the globe, but only few know how many nights I only slept 2 hours due to studying and completing endless assignments.

My best advice is to discover what you are passionate about. What makes you most fulfilled? Then, take a risk to attain it. My passion for nursing allowed me the opportunity to carry out not only my needs and wants, but it became a gateway for endless opportunities. One of the many definitions of risk is to venture upon; take or run the chance of. I urge you to venture your dreams and goals because it just might be the best decision of your life.
