Check Out Morgan Gonzales’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Gonzales.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been making candles for years but I knew that my primary mission in the company was to bring something bigger to people than a simple candle. I started to look introspectively. As a woman in my late 20’s who has chased various measures of success in my career, in my personal life, as a new mother, and as an individual, I found myself drowning more times than not. Over the past few years, I’ve realized the importance of mental health and self-love. I wanted my candles to offer an organic reinforcement towards self-ritualistic habits.

My candles are based on clean ingredients, but also double as a fragrance oil. The concept allows you to complete a self-ritual experience by lighting your candle, getting ready in a room full of good aromas, and then splashing a couple drops of it on your skin on your way out the door.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not always been the smoothest road. With growth, always seems to come a new set of challenges or learnings.

Entrepreneurship is not for the weak. As a team of 1, every last candle, website change, weekend market, package shipped, and photograph taken starts and ends with me. I’ve had to push myself out of my comfort zone to manage the parts of the business that don’t come as natural as the creative side.

Outside of that, I still work a full-time job and have a one-year-old son. Most of my nights are spent working on my business late into the evening or early in the morning. On the flip side, seeing positive reactions to my product drives me to continue forward. It’s a long road that requires patience and dedication but if you’re doing what you love, the time goes by in a blink of an eye.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I went to school at Miami University in Ohio. I majored in Fashion Corporate Business and Strategic Communications. I started my career as an Assistant Buyer for Burlington Stores and eventually have migrated over to a National Sales Manager for wholesale. I’ve always had a passion for retail, trend/design, and person-to-person communication.

Most sales people are very numbers driven, while I tend to lean into the relationship factor of sales. I believe this has set me apart from others and helped drive my success in my career. This is the same reason why I wanted to do more than just sell a product. I wanted to impact peoples lives in a meaningful way, and create an experience that will improve their life. I believe this is also what has set me apart in my candle business.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Be a sponge. Every place I have worked for and person I have worked with has impacted me in some format, in good and bad ways. Some people may inspire you, while others will show you exactly who you never want to become. I believe the smartest and best service you can give yourself is to latch onto every experience provided. My business acumen, eye for design, knack for people and determination to continue on my worst days is all a direct impact from encounters in my life.

I try to remain humble in acknowledging what I don’t know. I ask for feedback from people continuously. I try not to get too attached to one direction so that I can pivot if it’s not helping me.
