After her experience being struck by a drunk driver back in 2019. The aftermath made her realize how precious each moment is and led her to put her job aside to heal and step into the role of being a stay-at-home mom. Although she felt being at home with her then 10-month-old was beautiful, it heightened the reality of her healing process in that she was managing with a great deal of anxiety from trying to connect with her child while mentally, physically, and emotionally trying to maintain through everyday life.
When she returned to work, she found herself juggling motherhood, working full-time, and working to build a viable business. She didn’t have enough time to tend to her personal needs and had a ton of guilt spending too much time away from my son.
To spend more time with her child, they began painting together. These experiences helped to not only reduce her stress levels and her increased level of anxiety, it forged a closer connection to her young son.
That’s when the inspiration hit. When our first painting event sold out, she knew she was on the right track.
What began as a simple idea that started after a traumatic accident has evolved into a forward-thinking, creative lifestyle brand and business.
Fast Forward to today… Dipped N Color is a mission-driven brand that helps busy families connect and create positive experiences through art. With our custom paint kits, pre-made paint kits, and splat parties. As well as host-themed family-friendly paint & sips.
Our mission is to inspire every parent and child to connect deeply and create freely.
With a vision is to help parents and children celebrate individuality and diversity so that they are empowered to be their most creative and true selves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been an easy journey bringing my vision for my business to life but I wouldn’t change it for the world because I learned something every-time in which made me grow as a person and my business.
Some of the struggles I endured was attaching my self-worth to the success of my business. When my business wasn’t doing well, I felt like I was failing. When I actually had to change my mindset. That my worth is not tied to my business. Instead of just being sad that my business was not doing well I decided to think well what can I learn from this. In what areas of my business could I improve and how can I get there? Getting feedback from previous customers and asking how I could improve their experience really helped. Also, my customers feel seen, heard and that their feedback matters.
When you believe in your vision and have an action plan nothing can stop you.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Yes, so I’m known for my pop-up mommy and me paint & sips in the Sacramento Ca area. That’s where I really took off with my business idea when I started creating a space for families to come and paint together.
In time people began asking if I sell paint kits and do birthday parties. So I created designs to offer pre-made paint kits and custom paint kits on my website. I know you all are wondering well what’s the difference. Our pre-made paint kits are designs I created or partnered with an artist to create. So they’re sold as is and paint is already selected for you.
Now for the Custom Party Paint Kits, you get to upload a design of your choice and add any text or additional designs to the canvas. And will be provided a proof upon purchase. So it’s made exactly how you want for any special occasion. Birthday parties, family reunion, corporate events, etc., Great for children or adults! *Paint and paint brushes sold separately.
What sets me apart is I’m really passionate about what I’m doing and know the positive impact of having great family moments. As well as encouraging families to get creative.
I’m most proud that I didn’t give up on my vision despite my challenges. The impact I’m making on local families. And today I am currently nominated as one of six Calling All Dreamers finalists. Which is an opportunity to win 20K to open a storefront in the Downtown Sacramento area. The business concept I’m planning on bringing to the Sacramento area if I do win is Dipped N Color Splat Studio which is an art studio where all ages can come splat paint on a canvas with paint brushes, squeeze bottles, and many other tools. We would also provide protective gear such as goggles and coveralls so you can literally get Dipped N Color!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I enjoyed art a lot as a child. In school, if we had to do an art project, I’d go all out. In middle school and high school I had art classes so having those experiences really allowed me to explore my interests.
I also loved to read. My mom would tell me when I was little I’d fall asleep with my books. My dad was big on reading and still is. If you ever can’t find my dad, you can find him reading a book somewhere.
If I’m remembering correctly, my 6th-grade teacher Mr.Jones at Natomas Middle School introduced me to my first book series Maximum Ride by James Patterson. Became one of my favorite series.
I was an outgoing and active kid who loved sports as well. I played volleyball in high school.
