Check Out Molly Robbins’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Robbins.

Molly Robbins

Hi Molly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Caitlin and I started writing the script for our debut feature film, Teenage Women back in October! Our original goal was to make a short film with our friends: We both recently graduated from film school, and we wanted to prove to ourselves that we could make a movie in the real world. Once we started writing, we couldn’t stop. The world and the characters grew so much bigger, and the script grew from a short into a feature-length project! We knew once we had gotten words onto the page, we would have to figure out a way to shoot the thing, one way or another. Bringing together all sorts of collaborators from our previous projects has proved to us that moviemaking is possible on any scale.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely been difficult to get to where we are today. What we’ve found is that throughout the process, things will fall apart for better things to come together. When we’ve hit inevitable bumps in the road, instead of letting these roadblocks bog us down, we use it as an opportunity to strengthen the film through redirection. Instead of trying to force something that just won’t work, we search for unexpected options that will. Since we’ve been so open-minded to change and ready to adapt to the problems that may arise, those problems have always revealed themselves to be blessings in disguise. The movie will be better for it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Caitlin and I are both actors and filmmakers. We met in acting class back in 2021 and bonded over the fact that we were both women in male-dominated film departments at our respective colleges. We both highlight the female experience in our work and really look up to writers/directors such as Greta Gerwig, Sofia Coppola, and Lulu Wang. We’re both very proud of our dedication to paving our own way into the industry instead of waiting for someone else to give us an opportunity to do what we love to do.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The world is completely unpredictable. No matter how clean-cut things seem to be laid out, there’s always that chance that something will come out of left field and turn the world upside down. By learning to be adaptable, not only do you become a better human, but also a better artist.
