Today we’d like to introduce you to Milo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi everyone, my name is Milo, 1/3 of Sons of Leone, and this is my story. I first began my musical journey during my junior year of high school in 2010. After years of observing my older brother Stro compete and win numerous producer showcases and beat battles, I was curious to learn more about music production. Music, at first, was never in the picture for me. It was my lifelong dream to become a professional soccer player but when I was introduced to music, that changed everything. I relentlessly made beats every single day, and ultimately, this routine helped me develop at an accelerating rate. I eventually went onto further my studies while simultaneously pursuing my music aspirations. I attended Monmouth University in New Jersey, where I obtained my Bachelors and Masters in Social Work. After I graduated college, I finally felt the creative freedom to explore the adventures of music.
Fast forward now, I’ve been a music producer for 14 years now and my passion and love for music has never changed. In the beginning, they don’t tell you about how the music industry really operates. As creatives, all we see are the accolades and accomplishments of our peers, but never fully witness the business part of the industry. Throughout my career so far, I’ve experienced good and bad deals. I would like to say that it’s essential for all creatives to learn the music business. I’ve been able to reach success in music so far with credits, including sync licenses with VH1, Asics, Lollapalooza, and Stoli Vodka. Also, production credits with notable artists in the industry as well.
The biggest highlight of my career so far was winning the Remy Producers Series Season 5. From this achievement, I was able to collaborate with Hit-Boy and Key Wane, which ultimately led to a major single release and album placement with Big Sean. After receiving the highly coveted Co-Sign from Big Sean and DJ Mustard I was able to be in rooms that I couldn’t have imagined. I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish anything without my brothers Stro and IFYKUNO. We started our production team, Sons of Leone FKA (The Tucker Brothers) and music collective Leonia, with our friends and family. My advice to my fellow creatives is to never give up on your dreams, pray, and stay consistent. It’s not always about how you start, but it’s about how you finish. My story is still being written; stay tuned.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been good and bad moments, but the most important thing is to grow and learn from those experiences. Some of the struggles have been not being at the right place at the right time. In other words, you have to be brave and willing to make sacrifices to achieve your level of aspirations and goals. Music is something that you have to be in places that can propel your career. Traveling to different cities has always been my approach to being noticed and heard. Also collaborating with other creatives as well such as songwriters, producers, photographers, etc.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music producer from South Jersey but I travel between NY and LA. I specialize in making timeless music that listeners can connect with. I am most proud of being blessed with the gift of creating music for the world to enjoy. What sets me apart from others is my ability to create within different genres of music.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Time is something that you can never get back. I missed huge music opportunities during the Covid-19 Crisis. I decided to take a small hiatus from music to try and find inspiration again, but it was difficult. Luckily, I was able to learn how to play the guitar during this time, as learning a new instrument unlocked a new way of thinking. Which, in fact, improved my creativity tremendously. The Covid-19 epidemic was a rough time for me because I had to find a new approach to music. Lessons I’ve learned is that as creatives, you need to live in order to create. I also learned that life is too short; try to be intentional with time and communicate with your friends and family as much as you can.
