Check Out Mike Bosh’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Bosh.

Hi Mike, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I had been an athlete my entire life. By 14 years old, I was skateboarding competitively: surfing, playing baseball, boxing, running track and field, and even break dancing. I aspired to become a professional athlete and live a life of physical well-being.

Unfortunately, I suffered many injuries, including broken bones, a torn ACL, dislocated shoulder, torn rotator cuff, a hip fracture, an osteoplasty, herniated disc, and torn hip and shoulder labrum. I had multiple reconstructive surgeries, all of which led to dysfunctional movement patterns. My body was completely dysfunctional and causing chronic pain. Doctors weren’t any help as they continued to recommend joint replacement surgeries, more pain medication, and physical therapy. The last thing I wanted was another surgery and more meds. My body was beaten down, as was my spirit. My dream of becoming a professional athlete was long gone.

As time passed, merely living a pain-free life became my greatest aspiration. After a year of not being able to sit due to excruciating sciatic pain in my lower back and down my leg, I had a life-saving revelation. I was not born with pain, my childhood was relatively pain-free (except when I crashed into things), therefore, if I could realign my joints and strengthen my muscles through exercises, yoga, stretches, etc. maybe I could restore alignment through corrective exercises and stretches I believed I could get my body back to its original anatomical design. By giving it my all, I knew I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. My goal was pure and simple: live life without pain.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The most significant difficulty was moving away, in thought and action, from my dependence upon Western medicine and medical doctors to fix me. After years of seeing doctors, receiving diagnoses, and having surgeries, I came to the realization that I couldn’t depend on doctors to “fix” me. In order to achieve movement without pain, I began educating myself on which foods stimulated an inflammatory response and eliminated them from my diet. I researched anatomy and found out what the optimum blueprint of the human body should look like; how the spine should be curved in a slight S shape, that from the side view, a straight line should be able to be drawn from the ear to the shoulder down to the middle of the ankle. I learned how balance and symmetry begin with the hips and how the Psoas muscle is instrumental in connecting the upper and lower halves of the body. How every nerve, joint, and muscle is interconnected, and when one joint is misaligned how it affects the whole body. On and on, I researched what the best practices for maintaining healthy movement habits looked like. I investigated sources for recovery and researched all avenues of movement and belief until I found what worked for me. A simple routine of extended slow, easy, gentle corrective exercises and stretches. I used pain as my guide to gently coax my body into positions and stopped if I felt the pain to avoid any inflammatory response.

I became a Certified Postural Alignment Specialist. However, although I was expertly knowledgeable on paper, realigning my body back to optimal postural function wasn’t as easy as turning the pages of an anatomy book. It took daily diligence to assess which physical and static movements felt best, and which postural tools were most productive in optimizing my progress. I experimented with pillows, squeezing them between my knees, and towels, rolling them and then placing them behind my neck and back. I used chairs, belts, and cutting boards to experiment with optimal static and movement positions. I learned and kept a list of which gentle, corrective realignment exercises and stretches made me feel best. They soon became part of my daily life and slowly, but surely, I began to achieve more and more functional mobility in my joints. I was very aware of the fact that my increasing mobility and realignment required daily maintenance. Just as my food intake controlled my inflammation, my daily execution of functional maintenance exercises fed my body the correct stimulus for optimum movement habits. Over time, and with diligence and consistency, I was able to realign my joints and restore my functional movement patterns.

Transforming my life from pain to optimum function became a reality. My belief in myself to use the knowledge I acquired to develop a personalized program of functional exercises that would result in pain-free movement together with my unwavering perseverance to succeed resulted in the complete actualization of my life free from pain. I felt compelled to share my results and develop personalized programs for all who were desperate to achieve a pain-free life.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
A risk, for young me, was jumping off my roof into my swimming pool without injury or worse!

Now, my biggest risk is trusting my instincts and directing my life and vocation in the direction of healthy functional movement and complete well-being by taking all that I have physically, mentally, artistically, and financially and bringing them together to serve one ultimate goal: empowering people, with my knowledge, motivation, Customized Posture Therapy Program, and products to achieve and maintain their optimum physical well-being. My sister, Em, and I are living examples of two people who were broken, physically, and have succeeded in transforming our bodies by daily adherence to exercises within the Personalized Posture Therapy Program. The risk is small compared to the tremendous impact it can make in peoples’ lives. With the pandemic shuttering and isolating people within the confines of their homes, the money, time, and effort required for me to develop and offer a customized Postural Therapy Program, remotely, maybe a risk, but the ultimate benefits and results for people to experience far outweigh any risk I may be taking.
