Check Out Michelle Giraldo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Giraldo

Hi Michelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
First of all, I’d like to thank Voyage for considering me for this article and allowing me to share my story.

My career as a writer and creative began while working with young children in various schools in my country. Their curiosity and creativity opened infinite worlds in my mind. From that enriching experience, I wrote my first children’s books: “My Little Piggy” and “My Little Piggy: The Dragon’s Island”. I also created the webcomic “The Shadow of Kaia”. The acceptance these works received in schools in my country and from readers in the United States marked a pivotal moment in my journey as a writer.

Over time, the events and lessons I’ve gathered throughout my life led me to embark on one of the most challenging and exciting projects: my animated short film “In My Hands”.

I’ve been fortunate to work alongside Isaac Rubio, a talented director and animator, with whom I share this creative adventure. Together, we brought to life a story that captures part of the arduous yet beautiful journey of a writer, highlighting the resilience and love for art.

Every step I’ve taken has helped me solidify my passion for storytelling, and I’m excited about what the future holds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been an easy path, but I believe the greatest challenges often lead to the most meaningful rewards. With effort, discipline, and perseverance, I’ve been able to overcome every obstacle.

Interestingly, I’ve never read about any artist in history having an easy journey. However, achieving goals that once seemed unattainable makes all the hard work worthwhile.

When the idea for the short film “In My Hands” was born and I began writing it, I felt like I had a house full of lightbulbs to illuminate it, but I lacked the electricity to turn it on. That’s where Isaac Rubio came in. With his experience and talent, he lit the way forward, and I’m deeply grateful to have shared this challenging journey of creating the short film together.

Isaac’s experience working on projects for Netflix, Nickelodeon, Sega, and others has been invaluable, not only for the development of the short film but also for my growth as a creative. His knowledge and professionalism have been a constant source of inspiration.

This project began seven years ago, and now, seeing it completed and participating in international festivals, I feel an immense sense of satisfaction. “In My Hands” represents not only our hard work and dedication but also a message of hope for artists and writers worldwide.

From the bottom of my heart, I hope this short film inspires others to keep moving forward despite the obstacles they may face. There’s a personal message in this film that I always repeat: “Don’t put the pencil down.” It’s an invitation to never give up, to stay resilient, and to not let negative opinions define you. Believe in yourself and the value of your talent. Resilience is key.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work today is more fulfilling than ever. Over the years I spent developing this short film, wonderful professional opportunities opened up for me. I’ve had the chance to collaborate as an artist and creative on projects for Netflix and Sega, experiences that have significantly enriched my career and broadened my vision as a writer and creator.

Without a doubt, I am, and always will be, a writer. Creating stories is both my passion and my purpose, and I’m constantly thinking about how to take my work as far as possible. My focus is always on connecting with new audiences and exploring innovative forms of expression.

What sets me apart is my versatility. I write and create content for a wide range of audiences, from children’s books to young adult fiction comics, and now, I’m expanding into animation projects. Enhancing my career with a diverse set of artistic and creative skills allows me to stand out in this field.

What I am most proud of is how these experiences have transformed me, not just as a professional but also as a person. Each project has challenged me to grow and brought me closer to my purpose of inspiring others through art and storytelling.

What makes you happy?
I have several sources of happiness, but without a doubt, my family is the most important. My daughter and my husband are the people I admire, love, and respect the most. They are my driving force and constant joy, and their unconditional support is what pushes me to move forward every day.

Additionally, achieving my personal and professional goals is an immense source of satisfaction. I tend to set ambitious goals, and while they often come with significant challenges, being able to accomplish them fills me with pride and motivates me to keep dreaming big.

Finding a balance between my professional and personal life is something that also brings me profound happiness. Being able to work on what I’m passionate about, while also being a mother and a wife, and enjoying quality moments in each of these roles, has given me peace and harmony in my life. For me, that balance is the key to feeling fulfilled and complete.
