Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayte Valdes Carlos Barrionuevo.
Hi Mayte Valdes, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We met in Buenos Aires Argentina in a dance company. a year later we got married and moved to US.
We Performers, Actors, Dancers, Choreographers, Storytellers.
Carlos & Mayte became partners in Buenos Aires Argentina and started working for
some of the most prestigious tango shows in the world.
relocated to United States to continue performing
for different shows including the Broadway show Forever
Tango, Jacobs Pillow, Vail international Dance Festival, Israel
Dance Festival and Evolution Tango on its world premiere in
Broadway are some of their highlights as a Tango Dance couple.
2013 starred their first short film “Nina del Tango” which received a nomination for Best
Short Film after being an official selection of eleven international film festivals, including two
Oscar qualifying festivals , they both received a nomination for best actress and actor at the “Silent River
film festival”.
Based in the city of Los Angeles, Carlos & Mayte continued their formation on the acting field
and joined Shia Laboeuf’s theatre company “Slauson Rec”
The couple made TV appearances on the CBS shows “Why women kill” , “Seal Team”,
“Millionaire Match Maker”, “The Martha and Snoop show”. Commercials including Audi, Geico,
Princess Cruises, Motorola, and Hennessy as well for documentaries such as “For the love of
Tango”. The Short film “In the Ring” was included at the “Cannes
Film Festival”. Carlos and Mayte had their directorial debut with the film “Tiempo pequeño” in
2020.
As choreographers, performers and celebrity coaches, They have worked and collaborated with top
names in the industry, including Ricky Martin, Eva Longoria, Marc Cherry,
Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn, Craig Robinson, Alexandra Daddario, Finn Wittrock, Farah
Diba and Hillary Clinton among others.
They were featured in the documentary series “Gusty” hosted and produced by Hillary
Clinton. Currently in pre production for a horror vampire film “Dog” As the lead roles.
The couple is currently performing and directing the show “We call it Tango” by Fever in
United States and Canada.
2025 they have been working on their new show Red Velvet Reverie created, written, directed and choreographed by us both. Projects for 2026
Tango Elite: entertainment agency providing bespoke tango shows for business, tango related productions and private events within US.
Tango Breakthrough: online platform for tango enthusiasts and aspiring dancers.
Campaign directors for Fulana Shoes.
Carlos and Mayte will be staring and choreographing the show Hollywood Gothic to be presented at the Broadwater theatre in Los Angeles.
Specialty act at “The Honey Club” in Los Angeles . Their new show directed and created by Carlos & Mayte “Tango Elite the Show” (official show) coming up May 2026 & Red Velvet Reverie Show residency and tour.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My art is dark and surreal yet infused with hypnotic, other worldly beauty ” some of our acts are heartwarming and others heartbreaking spreading awareness and also art through storytelling. Actors / Dancers / Choreographers / LA Based / Match made in heaven / Storytellers / Tango Argentino / Animal Lovers / Standing against Abuse. Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.
