Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Emerson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a writer, director, actor, and person from Vero Beach, Florida. A University of Miami graduate with a BFA in Performance/Directing, I use my Internet platforms to produce progressive narratives with real-world impact. I currently serve on the advisory board for The Ali Forney Center.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working in the entertainment industry isn’t easy for anyone. The college years (and the few following) were certainly a struggle. As someone with multiple “irons in the fire,” it took a long time to build things to a sustainable level.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Looking back, I’m most proud of the projects that I have written and created independently. Hot Sissy, my first novel, is about growing up queer in redneck Florida. My feature film, Hooked, follows a homeless sex worker struggling to build a better life for himself and his partner. With each project, I feel like I’ve gained a bit of mastery, so I’d have to say that I’m most proud of my latest work, a novel titled The Sparkle Club. This story follows Markle Sparkle, a gay-baiting influencer who gets canceled so hard that he’s forced to do a summer of community service in rural Ohio… while living with the family whose lives he destroyed.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid was a strange challenge. In a lot of ways, it helped me be more of a self-starter. On the other hand, I’ve become so isolated with my work that it has led to a strange form of burnout. With all of that nonsense behind us, I’m looking forward to working with a regular team again.
