Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Wong.
Hi Martin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Thanks to my parents, who work in the creative field, I have been using Photoshop for over 25 years and naturally got into photography over 20 years ago. Photography has been a super rewarding art/hobby for me that turned into a full-scale production for me, and I got lucky with the rise of social media and cosplay to grow it even further.
A few years ago, I moved to Los Angeles to create more with different creators and I am loving every moment of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest struggles in today’s photography is getting others to know your work, and social media has become very saturated. In order to stand out, I have to learn to create a lot of content that shows my behind the scene process rather than just creating photos alone.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love doing portrait photography, mostly because I get to interact with the people that I shoot with. Every time I photograph someone, I feel like they are sharing a piece of them with me and I get to learn more about their personality and style.
I carry my portrait photography style over to my cosplay photography as well, which allows me to take photos at almost any location in a very fast manner.
How do you think about luck?
While I have no control over my luck, I was fortunate enough to grow my social media following when major platforms were exploding in the internet space. While many like me also grew a lot on social media by chance, I believe our hard work and dedication were necessary to pair with the timing of everything.
