Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Ferguson.
Hi Mark, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story is one of perseverance and triumph. I grew up in South LA in the Crenshaw District where gangs crime and drugs are an everyday occurrence. As a young teenager, I followed those bad influences until I realized it’s was destroying my life and many close friends and family around me. As a young black man, I have chosen to change my life from a negative into a positive and become a writer and community activist to show the young black generation that their life has a purpose and meaning. My first published book, “The Unspoken Truth“ speaks on black empowerment inspiration and encouragement for the black community across the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Now life as a black man in America in the cold streets of South LA has been a struggle. Growing up seeing my childhood friends die before the age of 21 in the streets. Police and law enforcement locked us up for decades of our life. Getting beat and mistreated by the criminal justice system presents a constant struggle for this black man and many others throughout America. My road thru life has been hard but I keep fighting on, and I’m still fighting everyday to make my life better for myself and my community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a published author, the name of my piece of literature is “The Unspoken Truth“. It’s a powerful piece of black history to encourage black man and woman to overcome life obstacles. Wake up and realize what’s going in your daily life. Unite as a people and let’s own the community we live in. What sets me apart from others is that I’m raw and real. But I’m also street and book savvy, the best of both worlds. I give back and volunteer to feed the homeless, I protest on the frontlines of police brutality. And I write and sell books and t-shirts to educate black people on their heritage and culture. Right now I’m America, my honest truth and invigorating spirit sets me apart from others.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My friends and family deserve the credit. First and foremost, my grandmother Dr. Ena Paschall because she was my first educator and taught me a lot of positive things about life. My father Mark Ferguson Sr because he taught and showed me how to be a successful black man in America. He instilled morals values and integrity within me. My closest friends because they encouraged me to stand strong and go hard for the culture. And last but not least, my beloved bro Nipsey Hussle he showed my neighborhood and the world that you can beat the odds and be great in life.
