Check Out Maria Barrera’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Barrera

Hi Maria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Maria and Romualdo Barrera, the proud owners of Antojitos Azteca, embody the spirit of the American dream with a deep connection to their Mexican roots. Both immigrants from Mexico, they arrived in the United States with a dream in their hearts. Interestingly, their journey didn’t start in the culinary world. Maria, a talented hairstylist, and Romualdo, a skilled barber, initially pursued careers in the beauty industry. However, Maria’s love for Mexican cooking, nurtured from a young age by her loving mother, never left her.
“Food is noble,” Maria’s mother would often say, instilling in her daughter a deep appreciation for the art of cooking and the joy of serving others. Maria found immense satisfaction in seeing the joy on people’s faces when they tasted her food and appreciated its flavors.
Inspired by this passion, Maria and Romualdo decided to take a bold step. They ventured into the food industry, investing in a food truck they named “Antojitos Azteca.” This name symbolizes a blend of their pursuit of the American dream and their desire to share authentic Mexican flavors with the community, all served from the convenience of wheels.
As they navigate this new chapter in their lives, Maria and Romualdo hope that the locals in the Antelope Valley will fall in love with their food, just as they have poured their love and heritage into every dish. They are optimistic that with time, their food truck will become a cherished staple in the community, supported by the very people they are so passionate about serving.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Establishing themselves in the community. As a new food truck, their primary hurdle is to become known and preferred in town. They understand that building a reputation takes time, but finding their spot around town and securing more events has been difficult since they are newcomers. Despite these challenges, they remain optimistic and dedicated, hoping that the locals in the Antelope Valley will fall in love with their food and support them on this journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
