Today we’d like to introduce you to Maisy Kay.
Hi Maisy Kay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My music career properly got started when my primary school put on a musical I made when I was ten. It got featured in the local papers, and I was invited to a recording studio in Birmingham to record original music. Not long after, I got a record deal offer in Los Angeles and moved over here!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say there has definitely been a few bumps in the road. For a while, I wasn’t sure what kind of music I wanted to make and figuring that out as a young influential teenager was hard. I also had to learn how to navigate my way through a lot of not-so-great personalities in the industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer-songwriter, and I’m probably most known for singing in the fictional language Na’vi from the movie “Avatar” on a track called “The Storm.” I’m most proud of the unreleased body of work I’ve put together over the past couple of years. I think what sets me apart from others is the way I try to incorporate a bit of fantasy into my music and really focus on storytelling through my lyrics, art and visual content.
The COVID-19 crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I definitely learned the importance of working with people you truly love. I survived on remote sessions throughout 2020, and still being able to write music with some of my favorite writers was one of my main sources of joy during that time.
