Check Out Lovina Hermez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lovina Hermez.

Hi Lovina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At the age of seven, I had already found interest in the arts, whether it was performing, sports, or writing. In 2008, my mother took me to an ice rink that had opened by our home, currently AZ Ice Gilbert, just to try out for fun and be able to say that when I’m older that I could skate. Little did I know that Figure Skating would be a part of my life for 15 years. At the age of 11, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I left public school and switched to online so that I could dedicate my time solely on competitive figure skating. Since that time I had competed all around the U.S as well as being trained all over the world alongside Olympic and National athletes and coaches. This was what I thought my whole life would consist of. However, my competitive figure skating career had to come to an end. In 2017, I had experienced a sudden discomfort in my knee while I was competing in Anaheim. After competing, I realized I had entered my first heartbreak. After many doctor appointments, I was told that I wouldn’t be able to compete or train ever again due to many injuries not healing properly and a bone cyst in my knee. So after that, I had to quit and end my competitive skating career.

Shortly after, I had realized my love for the sport wasn’t just the adrenaline of jumping and spinning but also to be able to tell a story on the ice without using words. I had made my performances each mean something to me and have had the opportunity to tell a story with each one. With that in mind, I stopped sulking around, ran upstairs, dislocated my toe on the way up, and told my mom these 12 words. “Mom, I want to be an actress and continue to tell stories.”

With the support of my parents and siblings, I got to work right away. I found my love for acting. After many days and research, I got myself into many acting classes. Being based in Arizona at the time, I went to LA for a quick trip to scope out the entertainment industry and what was in store for me there as an actor. I didn’t want to be an actor just to say that I am one, but to still be able to continue to tell stories and be able to use my words. With the athlete mentality, there is no slowing me down when it comes to something I want to put my all into. It’s dedication, hard work, and having serious passion towards your work, and that is what I will continue to do as an actor.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, definitely not. No road is ever smooth, there’s always going to be bumps along the way with any journey.

I think I, as well as many others, have hit many bumpy roads and turns along the way. At some point, I hit rock bottom, I was lost. I lost friends, family, my spark was disappearing. It was all just building up and the weight was too heavy on my shoulders. The amount of no’s that I has getting at the time, it was hard. There will be disappointments, people who go, but that’s just how life works.

As cheesy as it sounds I am glad however that I did go through all these struggles that I have faced because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. I do think everything does happen for a reason and that even if a door has closed on you there is always another one that is open, you just have to take that step forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently am a working actress specializing in TV and Film. I think I’ve been most proud of my capability to keep myself grounded. No matter any successes or accomplishments I have achieved in my career I can always stay true to myself and others around me and I really am truly proud of myself for that.Another thing Ive been proud of is the athlete mentality I still have and being able to put that towards my work as an actor. The dedication and hard work isn’t just words being used but also my actions toward my storytelling. It has also been an absolute honor as an Assyrian women to continue to accomplish such things.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Ah, luck. I don’t exactly think there has been just “luck” played into my life. I think it’s been more of being lucky to have such amazing support. Without my mom and dad and the support they have shown and given me and continue to give me as well as my sister and brother at such a young age, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Not only that but also having a family through acting and the industry that continues to look out for me and to continue to help me through it all.
