Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorenzo Breda.
Hi Lorenzo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hello, I’m Lorenzo Breda, a music composer and guitarist originally from Italy. My musical journey commenced at the age of 12 when I first picked up the guitar. Through my teenage years, I acquired my initial professional experiences as a guitarist, solidifying my decision to pursue a career in music.
Post high school, I continued my education by immersing myself in Jazz Guitar Performance at the Conservatorio Vivaldi in Alessandria, Italy, where I successfully graduated in 2018. During the same year, I was fortunate to secure a scholarship for the undergraduate program at Berklee College of Music in Boston. From 2019 to 2023, I dedicated myself to my studies there. Motivated by my goal to expand my knowledge, I delved into Film Scoring and Jazz Composition.
In September 2023, I embarked on a new chapter in my life by relocating to Los Angeles, California, where I currently reside and pursue my professional endeavors.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always considered myself fortunate, and a pivotal reason for that is the chance to transform my passion into my profession. This element has injected my journey with a profound sense of passion and creativity. However, similar to any path of personal growth, there were moments of discomfort. Particularly, at the commencement of my Berklee journey, engaging with exceptionally talented musicians sparked a tendency to compare myself, leading me to question my own abilities. It was during those times that I consciously worked to manage my emotions, allowing my rational side to prevail. This experience held significant meaning for me as it taught me how to turn negative feelings into new challenges, fostering personal growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I recently graduated and am currently immersed in the world of composition for film and media. At this early stage of my career, I am diligently working to align my passion for composing with my skills as a guitarist, creating a synergy that I believe will set a unique tone to my musical journey.
One of my current projects involves scoring a short film, allowing me to apply and refine my compositional techniques while simultaneously honing my production skills. This hands-on experience is invaluable as I navigate the intricate landscape of the film and media industry.
Reflecting on my journey, I take pride in the strides I’ve made. A few years ago, envisioning a career abroad seemed like a distant dream. However, from the outset, I embraced the possibility and have dedicated myself to turning that dream into reality. It’s a testament to my belief in my abilities and the perseverance required to carve a niche in the global music scene.
As I continue to work passionately towards this goal, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and am committed to further developing my skills, both as a composer and a guitarist, to create a harmonious and impactful musical narrative.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Los Angeles has this fantastic mix of urban and natural vibes that I absolutely love. You can hop in your car, and within minutes, you’re in a completely different space – away from the city noise and traffic, surrounded by peaceful landscapes. It’s a quick escape that I find really refreshing.
And, of course, there’s nothing quite like those famous LA sunsets. The sky lights up with such beautiful colors; it’s like a painting every evening. Plus, the food scene here is just fantastic. The variety and flavors you can explore make it a culinary adventure.
Now, the one thing that’s not as thrilling? Traffic. It’s the downside of city living, and it can be a real headache. Despite that, the overall mix of what LA has to offer keeps me hooked.
