Check Out Lisa Cisneros’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Cisneros. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Dominic’s is a family-owned business. Born in Sicily, our matriarch Angelina purchased a small pizzeria in 1991 from a close friend, Dominic. With little more than a passion for food and a desire to create a legacy for her young family, Angelina risked her life’s savings for a chance at the American Dream. With a focus on customer service, quality food, and fair prices, Dominic’s has proudly been woven into the fabric of Cypress. Angelina’s children Lisa, Gina, Francesca, and Michael are grateful to carry on their Italian tradition of hard work and dedication. The family is proud to continue the legacy for decades to come.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As any business, we have faced challenges over the course of over 31 years doing this. From having the right staff to product challenges, we have seen it all. Covid shutdowns are definitely the most recent with many challenges that were presented but as a family, we have always been able to work together to rise above the challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the oldest of Angela’s children and I also am a mother. I have been managing the business for about 13 years now with every intention of keeping it going for years to come. Managing our business while being a wife and mother of 5 does come with its challenges however, I have found so much joy and satisfaction in continuing to help our family business as we bring our family recipes to life and share them with all that patron Dominic’s. The joy on our guest’s faces and the stories that they share with me have to be one of the most satisfying parts of it all. My mom, Angela, the owner of Dominic’s, is a very passionate and loving person who cares deeply for us, her customers and her staff. She finds great joy in all of it and it shows.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Angela started in 1991 and has overcome so much over the years, especially as a young mother and woman entrepreneur. Watching her as a young girl (I was 12 years old when she started the restaurant) helped mold me into the strong, hard-working woman that I am today. If I were to give someone advice as they are starting out, I would say to make sure that you have good people in your life that support your dream and that you may be able to lean on. Save for a rainy day and be willing to adjust to the challenges that present themselves. Owning and running a business is an ever-moving process. Challenges will come and go and as long as you are willing to adjust to those, you will be able to keep moving forward.
