Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Cooper.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my career in Hollywood as an Art Director, Set Decorator, creating sets for film and popular television sitcoms. My work has always centered on creating environments where actors step into there world.,
Overtime that instinct expanded beyond sets, and into live music experiences. While immersed in the LA Blues Scene , my husband who’s a well regarded blues guitarist host a weekly blues jam in Glendale. @ Therapy at The Roar Room, it’s there I noticed a striking imbalance – of women despite there immense talent.
That took me into action, I created Ladies Sing The Blues and further more created Ladies Sing The Blue Jam Night with Blues Queens, bringing the first all- women – fronted blues jam in Los Angeles and in the 92 year history to the legendary Mint LA..
What began as a response to a lack of visibility has grown into a movement, rooted in excellence, community, and a cultural legacy.. We make history January 3, 2026
.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride. Creating something new- especially something that challenges long- standing norms rarely is.
One of the biggest challenges has been stepping into a space where women haven’t traditionally been centered and building without an existing blueprint to follow.
Fortunately enough through my set decorating experience, as head of my department I went through opticals to bring my sets together! So I’m familiar with that intense balancing, but at the end it all comes together!!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’am a creator whether it’s creating sets for sitcoms, episodic, or film .. I see things through a different eye.
I noticed an unbalance on the blues stage with women. There were few women on stage. I wanted to change that narrative. So, 4 years ago, I created Ladies Sing, The Blues with the intent of spotlighting women, I wanted to give them a platform.
Then came the booking at the Legendary Mint LA, Now we are back for the 10th time, this time we’re making history. It’s a blues jam format and it’s All -women -fronting and It’s powerful!!! This marks the first time in The Mints 89 year old legacy that all women will lead. I have 18 Blues Queens from Grammy Nominated to young emerging blues artists. The young women are our future.
I’m creating a shift.
I’m only getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I’m happiest when I’m creating something meaningful and watching people connect with it. Seeing woman step into their own power, use their voices and lead on a blues stage, where it’s been traditionally men. By seeing women rise and lead this makes me happy.
