Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Maxwell.
Hi Lacey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Lacey Maxwell, owner and lead makeup artist of 805 Makeup. I’ve been an artist for 17 years and fully independent for the last 9 years. Being a creative, I’ve always had a passion for the arts which lead me into the beauty industry. Specifically makeup artistry. My career started at MAC Cosmetics and slowly evolved into owning my own freelance makeup business. Along the way, I was honored to be awarded best makeup artist by California Wedding Day Magazine and have had my work featured in commercial print and bridal magazines. My dedication and passion have helped establish myself as a highly desired makeup artist in Santa Barbara County for bridal and beauty makeup.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Great question, I always feel like there’s going to be struggles along the way as a small business owner. I like to look at these more as learning opportunities that eventually lead to growth. 2020 Covid was a great example of a learning opportunity. Unable to work with my clients one-on-one I took the viral route, offering virtual makeup lessons. I also took at the time to really hone in on my business as a whole. Updated my website, the way I connected with people, and more social media presence.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist who specializes in bridal and beauty makeup. I am known for creating natural but elevated makeup looks for my clients. I love to make my clients look and feel the best versions of themselves.
I’m most proud of my work ethic, calm demeanor, and attention to detail. I take the time to ask all the little questions and really listen to my client’s requests. Based on their answers and my expertise, I’m able to create a makeup look that meets or exceeds their expectations.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
It’s difficult to narrow down to one specific childhood memory. I loved going on adventures as a kid, road trips, camping, and riding motorcycles with my family.
If I pick a memory that pertains to my love for art, it would be visiting my great aunt. My aunt had a whole room in her home dedicated to crafting and painting. This room was an artist’s dream! She had every tool imaginable. Her and I would spend hours painting, playing music, and talking about life. Making lifelong memories I’ll cherish forever.
