Check Out Keila Dolle’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keila Dolle.

Hi Keila, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hey there, my name is Keila Dolle (pronounced “Kayla Doll”)… I’m an actress, filmmaker and comedian, and a proud native Angeleno. I’ve been in the entertainment industry since high school, and I’m so grateful to still keep going.
People like to trash LA, but this city is full of so many creatives and possibilities. You can truly design the lifestyle and career you want.

I am starring in the new movie Airplane 2025, a raunchy sex comedy available for streaming everywhere. I had a blast playing a sassy flight attendant. The film also stars Tom Arnold, Tania Fox, Cody Renee Cameron, Marval Rex, Landon Tavernier and Hannah Hueston. It was a wild ride working with Asylum Films, the same production company from Sharknado. Our director, Adrian Avila, was really supportive and made the set a fun place to be.

My career has been through many different chapters, as the industry changes I have evolved along with it. I’m a proud renaissance woman and I feel it is important not to put yourself in a box!

My first love has always been acting. I got my BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where I studied at Stella Adler. After college, I fell into the world of comedy, studying at UCB and performing improv & sketch all over town. I was on a house sketch team at The Pack Theater, and also hosted a variety show called The Scramble.

When the pandemic hit and all the theaters shut down, I needed to be creative from home, so I created a mental health podcast Crying Behind Sunglasses. It was really fun to interview comedians and people from all walks of life about their struggles and find a way to laugh about it. I’m really passionate about making art that has a social impact, so it meant a lot to be able to destigmatize conversations about mental health.

Once the world opened back up, I dove headfirst into stand up comedy. I took classes with Lisa Sunstedt and Jenn Sterger to sharpen my chops, and I’ve been lucky to perform at venues such as The Comedy Store, The Ice House, and Flappers. Stand up was the final frontier of comedy for me, and something I avoided for a long time because I was scared of performing solo. However, once I got a taste of it, I felt so liberated! I can be as dark and weird as I want to, and there’s no one to tell me no.

Nowadays, I live just north of Burbank on a hobby farm with goats and chickens. Joe Rubinstein (my husband) and I have a barn with a professional soundstage inside. Joe is a prolific director and DP, so we use it mostly for music videos and photoshoots. The barn is available to rent if you want to film here – https://www.cluckyfarm.com

When I first started making comedy sketches, I taught myself how to film and edit, and that snowballed into an entire second career as a freelance filmmaker and editor. My past film projects include Dancing Man the Documentary (featured on Good Morning America, the Today Show and other international news outlets) and We’ll Never Make It, an award-winning short film on Amazon. I’ve also worked as a freelance video editor for clients like Hartbeat, BuzzFeed, Smosh, Crooked Media, and ColourPop Cosmetics.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest obstacle I’ve faced is keeping my mindset positive in the face of rejection. As an actor, I put in hundreds of auditions per year, and I have to keep showing up 100% committed every single time. To be an actor, you have to absolutely love it to the point that you’re willing to sacrifice anything. If you don’t have that passion, and you can be happy doing something else, then please go do that. Acting is a tough lifestyle. The things that carry me through are 1) my love for telling stories and 2) staying grounded in my personal life. My friends, partner, and community are all so important to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I’ve been in the entertainment industry since high school, so I’ve seen the business go up and down. I do my best not to let outside factors like strikes, worries about AI, or negativity about our business in general affect me. I’m a performer and I’ll always find a way to do what I love.
