Check Out Katie Poindexter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Poindexter.

Katie Poindexter

Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am – a portrait and concert photographer based out of North Carolina. I love to travel to seek out new adventures. I am completely obsessed with live music photography. The first time I went to a concert I saw this woman walking around taking pictures of the band and performer. I thought to myself that has to be the coolest thing ever to do. I have always had a love for photography, but this woman changed my mind about everything I wanted to do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road wanting to be a concert photographer. At times, it can be very challenging, from having to sneak your camera into getting taken away. Sometimes, you’re lucky if they don’t take your SIM card, but most of the time, they do, but in the end, it is all worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in portrait photography/ live music photography. I absolutely love taking family pictures and senior pictures, but my true passion is live music photography. There is something about being at a live event and being able to shoot your favorite artist while they are performing and getting the crowd’s reaction. It’s so funny and strange to me how music can bring people together, and it feels like the world just stops for a moment, and everything is okay.

What do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is being with my friends, making others laugh, and being behind the camera. Being in an environment where I am surrounded by people who accept me brings me the most joy. Not only that, but I enjoy making people laugh. Despite never knowing what someone is going through, making them laugh can help them feel at ease which lets me know I am doing something right. Lastly, being behind the camera is something I am passionate about, and seeing the smiles on people’s faces towards my work makes me satisfied with the outcome of my work.
