Check Out Kacie Margis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacie Margis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a small town in the Inland Empire. I was bullied as a child and through my teenage years but always found refuge in my schoolwork. I developed a love of learning that would serve as a reminder that the world had more to offer me than my current circumstance.

I’ve always considered myself a creative person, but it wasn’t until I sold my marketing company in 2019 that I decided to pursue my creativity as a full-time career. I’ve always been one to draw or scribble little notes– my family has called me “Doodle” for years. I began sharing my calligraphy and drawings online and what started as a hobby soon turned into a source of income.

My professional modeling career was something that I fell into after a photographer friend asked if I’d model for a brand they were working with. The more I did it, the more I loved it. Modeling has introduced me to some of the most incredible and creative individuals I’ve ever met. I love that no two days are the same for me, and I cherish all of the opportunities I’ve been given.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have overcome a lot of adversity in my life. In the last five years, I have survived a mass shooting, sexual assault, and a car accident that left me wheelchair-bound for several months. I also live with multiple chronic illnesses that affect my mobility and autonomic nervous system. Instead of allowing the struggles to stifle me, I use them as fuel. I believe there is strength in our individual stories, and I’ve found healing in sharing my experiences.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a fashion model, artist, and creative consultant. I am known for my original ideas, personality, and resilience. I am most proud of my reputation in the industry. I’ve worked really hard to be known as reliable, punctual, and fun to work with. I walk into every room with the intention of making someone’s day a little brighter.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve taken several big risks over the years, all for the sake of healing. After surviving the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, I did an interview with Buzzfeed about my experience. I also spoke in a town hall with Bernie Sanders about the aftermath of surviving and my struggle with PTSD. After I was assaulted last year, I took the courageous steps to report the crime and then go on the record with the New York Times with the goal of protecting other women. Then, last month I did a TEDx talk about navigating trauma. After I delivered that speech, I realized I am meant to do much more public speaking in my life.
