Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Garcia.
Hi Juan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my comedy career at the Laugh Factory comedy camp in Hollywood at the age of 16 years old. I then got introduced to comedians who were already established, and they took me under their wing, and it was like going to a university for humor. I soon started learning from the best comedians in the Comedy industry. I opened for Jeff Garcia, Tommy Davidson, Carlos Mencia, Jo Koy, Paul Rodriguez, and Felipe Esparza. As I gradually got better and found my own voice I was no longer fit for an opener and started venturing out to find my own path. I received my first TV Credits from shows Such as Loco Comedy Jam and Latino Laugh Festival, and I even had my own pilot called “Road Dawgz” filmed and turned into a feature episode on a network called SiTv. I was also part of a Tour called The Teens of Comedy Hosted by Brandon T Jackson. I am currently still pursuing comedy because the journey never really ends.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was pretty smooth when being an opener, or Feature act because you have guaranteed shows as long as you are in good standing with the headliner. Once you start to become Funny or find your voice, it becomes competitive because every comedian wants to be the funniest, and if you’re funnier than the headliner, feelings get hurt, and you start to have friction, or it just becomes competitive. Comedy didn’t start getting tough for me until I had a falling out with the headliner I first opened for. I had to go find my own comedy gigs and pursue my goals without the network I had with that headliner. People think the comedy industry is all laughter, but it’s very cutthroat, and there’s a lot of gossiping, drama, and comedians sabotaging your opportunities. You have to just suck it up and push on. The journey continues.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a stand-up comedian with Acting Ability. I am known for my truthful observational comedy and quick wit. I am proud of the longevity I have been able to sustain, even after facing Adversity. The thing that sets me apart is Experience.
What’s next?
My plans are to continue to create new monologue for my Stand up performance, pursue acting and Commercial acting.
