Check Out Joseph Gamble’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Gamble.

Hi Joseph, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was about 10yrs into a job in aviation—it was a good gig, I had decent seniority, I’ve always been good with people & I enjoyed the variety of destinations that I’d get to explore—but I was not fulfilled & starting to burn out, but had no idea what else I wanted to do. Even if I stayed at that job, it seemed to be a cool idea to have some kind of hobby or recreation to throw myself into during my downtime. I literally went to Groupon & decided to give a try to anything that had ever inspired the thought, “wow, that might be fun…”. Among other things, I decided to try an improv workshop…it intrigued me enough to enroll with Central Casting, start reading some books on acting, watch interviews, more classes…I started freelancing in lifestyle modeling with FunnyFaceToday, (www.fftmodels.com) including projects with VerizonFios, AT&T and Bloomberg Businessweek, while doing background on some NY’s dopest tv shows, just observing set life, listening to experienced actors & their experiences. Two years into that exploration, I realized I loved the craft & decided to take it as far as I could, so I started collecting mentors. I found myself in SoCal—not even for the purpose of acting, just needing a change of scenery and a departure from the NYC cold weather—and Stuart K Robinson & his team at Brady Brannon Rich (BBR) (www.bbrtalent.com) gave me a chance when I admittedly had no CLUE what I was doing. I simply brought my potential, my NYC hustle-ethic and was like, “ok, now what?” LOL I employed the skills I had, continued learning more in classes & finding coaches & mentors, took the terrifying leap into theatre & been advancing with intention ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? It definitely was not seamless or effortless. Challenged varied, from the actual identifying important skills to have, then applying myself to learning them; to manipulating job schedules to be available for auditions and booked projects; (still) learning the BUSINESS aspect of representation, commissions, union membership, contracts, etc; dynamics of interactions with fellow actors, casting directors, agents, production houses, etc; maintaining a healthy-yet-productive work/life balance; and on and on…however, all of these things were & are still lessons that make me more valuable, capable & competent.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a commercial actor, both onscreen and voiceover, having participated in numerous national campaigns for companies like The General Insurance, Kelloggs Special K, CreditKarma, InspireSleep, Salonpas, and Norton LifeLock to name a few. I’ve been a part of several short film projects, competitively participated in The 48 Hour Film Festival, the Miami Webfest & the Silicon Beach Film Festival.

I’ve participated in the Hollywood Fringe Festival for consecutive years, done multiple stage productions with Phantom Projects in La Mirada. Some of my recent feature film work has been in association with Imani Films (www.imanifilms.com) in the Carter Family series on AmazonVideo, as well as an exciting tv pilot with Oscar-contending director Aaron Abelto for Able2Film (www.able2film.com).

How do you think about luck?
I have a peculiar perception of “luck”—I consider it “lucky” if I happen to miss an exit on the highway that was unnoticeably congested with traffic or being the 100th customer in a business, but in association with intentional endeavors like a career, my luck literally consists of opportunities being seized and/or learned from. Nelson Mandela said, “I never lose. I win, or I learn”. I subscribe to that mentality and it has benefited me greatly.
