Check Out Joey Diamond’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Diamond.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
H. Savinar Luggage Co. has been helping generations of families since 1916. It started with Harry Savinar in 1916, then he handed the business off to his two sons Hyman and Harold Savinar and so on. Most of our employees have been with us for over 20 years, so you can trust us to give our customers the best advice and bring them the best luggage products at astounding values. Our 14,000 square foot warehouse is filled with one of the largest selections of nationally advertised brands of luggage, briefcases, laptop cases and travel accessories at the guaranteed lowest prices.

We also offer, Free monogramming on site.

Often host guest speakers for travel seminars.

We are an authorized repair center for most major brands of luggage whether you purchased it from us or not.

We specialize in corporate gifts that can be monogrammed or embroidered.

Our main priority is personal customer service (something you don’t always get when you buy online)

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every business has their ups and downs. We’ve been through recessions, earthquakes and now a worldwide pandemic and we’re still here.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been in this business and worked here for the past 37 years. I started out as a young man sweeping the floors and monogramming bags. I was quickly tossed out on the showroom floor and began helping customers. The rest is history.

We have always had a great selection of major brands at the guaranteed lowest prices. But I think it is our customer service that has kept us around so long. You know the feeling when you walk into a store and nobody is interested in helping you? They may ask “can I help you” but they really don’t want to. You get just the opposite here.

Many years back, we became an authorized repair center for most major brands. It didn’t make sense to sell a product and then have to send our customers somewhere else to have it serviced.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice for another competing luggage store just starting out?? DON”T DO IT! Not in my neighborhood.

In retail, there is so much you need to know. It’s impossible to lay it all out in an interview. If there was one piece of advise I would give someone, it would be to know who your customer is!
