Check Out Jodie Bishop’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodie Bishop

Hi Jodie , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, originally I was born and raised in Detroit. I’ve been writing in general since I was 7 years old. I fell in love with writing and structure of stories and reading at a very young age, and decided that I would write stories and create worlds for me to enjoy. Eventually, it became a way for to me to talk about my daily stories to myself. Fast forward 22 years and I’m wanting the world to know my daily stories, struggles, vices, trials and tribulations, successes…all while constantly refining my craft and sharpening my blade so it cuts deeper. I’m also an actual musician, which I also started to learn at a young age. I’m a percussionist, and was in jazz band, marching band and concert band all throughout high school. I can also read a write sheet music, which I learned while in school. All this adds to my connection to music itself and it being a literal extension of my soul and why I do what I do. Music and writing is all I have and honestly it’s all I ever had..music/writing saved my life, and without it, I may not be here today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely has NOT been a smooth road, and I’m STILL trying to find my way through all of this. I enjoy the challenge though. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. I learned that, despite your talent/skill set, if you don’t have connections and don’t have the business or budget, you still have nothing. Therefore, I’m working hard to become not just a star, but a BUSINESSMAN that understands the fine print that comes with the love and passion for the art itself. It can be rough for somebody who mainly just cares for the art like myself, but the art IS PART THE BRAND, and the brand IS A BUSINESS, so learning how to make that work in tandem is a bit of a struggle. I will also say struggling to be able to pay for studio time, and struggling to promote my music because I don’t have a budget since regular bills are expensive and in abundance, does get in the way. I don’t have any help, so I’m doing everything out of pocket, which makes my process longer than I wish it could be. It’s okay though, because regardless I’ll find a way to make things work, ESPECIALLY when what’s at stake is my dream job that I wanted my whole life. I’m learning. Slowly but surely, I’m learning.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well I make music, specifically within the realm of alternative hip hop. I’m really multi talented though, so if I wanted to go and make jazz music, rock music or make classical music, I definitely can. It ain’t just words, I prove with actions too. I like to consider myself a performer/entertainer as well, and to my knowledge, the people enjoy the performances I’ve had the honor of putting on, which I feel has become something of a lost art form in the rap/hip hop world. I love to make the world feel right at home with me, and that’s with every show I’ve ever done, just like the music. I don’t hide. I’ve got to open for 3 of my favorite artists, with one of them I was the only opener twice and I met them twice and that what a dream come true for me for real! All I know, is that I’m GOD in the lane that I created for myself and I don’t worry bout the others cause I’m not them and they aren’t me. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be the leader of my generation as long as it doesn’t interfere with my integrity and moral compass. This ain’t bout competition…this is about legacy. How I want to be remembered when I die…and I refuse to die an ordinary man. Word to ozzy ozbourne and Elton John.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
More improvements….more connections…more money….more efficiency…more everything. I want the world and everything in it. In 5 years or less, I’ll have all the equipment to make the music and videos my mind dreams on up the daily basis currently. To add, I’ll also be directing and filming my own short films/movies to be a compliment to my music. I hope and am determined to have my hands in everything. I will make a jazz record, along with a LEGIT rock album, or at least incorporate more jazz and rock elements to my music, which I’ve already started doing. In the meantime, I’m focusing on what’s moving in the present and I’ll cross those bridges when I get to them. I also hope to be modeling for such brands like Prada, maison margiela, seventh heaven and Rick Owens. I live, eat and breathe fashion the same way I do music and writing in general. It’s all an extension of who I am and what I represent.
