Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Moon.
Hi Joanne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Alchemist Coffee Project began in 2015 with our first location, driven by a passion for quality coffee and thoughtful design. We opened our second location in 2019 in the heart of Koreatown, where we became known for our signature drinks and community-focused approach. After years of growth and refining our concept, we expanded beyond Koreatown in 2025 with our Culver City location. This move allowed us to reach a new audience and offer something fresh in a different part of the city while staying true to our roots.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many small businesses, we’ve faced challenges—from staffing shortages and rising costs to adapting during the pandemic. There were moments of uncertainty and growing pains, especially as we expanded and refined our identity. But every challenge pushed us to evolve, get creative, and lean more into our values. Those tough moments ultimately helped shape who we are today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Alchemist Coffee Project, we specialize in coffee with a deep respect for authenticity. We roast our own beans in-house, which allows us to maintain full control over quality and flavor. One of the things that sets us apart is our dedication to manual pourovers—something not many modern coffee shops prioritize anymore. It’s our way of honoring the craft and giving customers a more intentional coffee experience.
We’re proud to strike a balance between innovation and tradition. While our signature drinks like the Einspanner Matcha have a creative edge, our foundation is rooted in quality coffee and thoughtful preparation. What sets us apart is our commitment to doing things the right way, even if it takes more time or effort—because we believe our guests can taste the difference.
