Check Out Jihae Kim’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jihae Kim.

Hi Jihae, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a Korean, growing up in different countries all my life often made me feel a little out of place. To me, ‘home’ was something that constantly changed throughout my childhood. Going through many confusing seasons, Music was one of the only consistent things I was able to hold onto. I believe it’s what helped me get to where I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think I’m probably one of the luckier ones, considering I was able to do what I love until now. To be able to pursue an education in it is even more of a blessing.

A lot of the struggles that I’ve faced had to do with finances. Logically it was impossible for me to be where I’m at, but in time doors kept opening and I was able overcome a lot of the financial obstacles through it.

Of course, there were other internal or emotional struggles, but I think they’re something we have to wrestle to grow in character and more importantly, find our voices as individuals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
It still feels weird to call myself an artist, but as a creator, I love writing music and making video content. I mainly specialize in helping my friends and other artists thrive at what they do.

As an artist, I’ve only just started to create things for myself and I am at the beginning stages of that journey. In this journey, I specialize in writing songs and creating visual stories along with it. I love intimate and vulnerable stories that represent us as human beings. So, I’m hoping I can play a part in bringing that to the table through my art.

I believe what sets me apart from others is the goodness I see in people. It helped me continue many long-term friendships and relationships with people I’m able to love on all the time. I feel most proud when art is created in this environment. I’ve seen in so many occasions where music just flows right out so naturally from this atmosphere. And it’s impossible to create music alone, we need all the help we can get.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is six years old me, running in the grass field in front of our home, back in Bangalore, India. I would often go out alone, catch grasshoppers, caterpillars, ladybugs, and play with a flock of sheep (mostly watch them poop). I’m an only child and I guess I had to find different ways to keep myself busy. I would spend hours out in that field. I remember it being really calm and peaceful.
