Check Out Jazmine Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Johnson.

Jazmine Johnson

Hi Jazmine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m originally from southern Washington and moved to Seattle as soon as I was old enough. Living in Washington State-inspired me so much growing up, and I was beyond influenced by the local music heroes. My original plan was to be an attorney and head to law school right after graduation, but I decided to leave Seattle and see other cities. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I’d planned on taking a gap year to enjoy life in Los Angeles after moving from Seattle; the pandemic hit within that year and entirely shifted my perspective on my own aspirations. I had been sewing and playing guitar for a bit leading up to this point, but after the pandemic began, I started taking both of my hobbies seriously. Over time, my career path transitioned to complete creative work, allowing me to work a different avenue nearly every day of the week.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road; there’s so much self-doubt that comes with pursuing a non-traditional path. Aside from that, I feel that the hardest part was starting and building momentum to keep receiving jobs.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love answering this because it is such a loaded question! I truly do something different every single day. I’m a freelance model, professional makeup artist, guitarist, and a self-taught seamstress! I feel that everyone I meet knows me for different reasons. Each of my professional endeavors are skills I’ve worked on for years separately throughout my life, and they’ve now amalgamated into a singular career that overlaps quite often. I have my own clothing brand that is heavily influenced by my music taste and my favorite projects to work on are stage outfits for other performers! I do makeup for many local residents and also for the major events, which is beyond a dream. I have so many passions, and I love to connect them any way I can! I’ll try anything I’m interested in creatively, and I love being a person that can do it all.

How do you define success?
Success is being satisfied with the work you’ve accomplished, knowing that all the sacrifices and choices you’ve made have gotten you where you want to be.
