Check Out Jasmine and Vernon Chatman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine and Vernon Chatman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband and I moved to California about two years ago with our kids to further their acting careers. We soon realized that I couldn’t go to any local popcorn shops for my favorite snack because there were none. So we decided to open our own popcorn shop.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting any business is never a smooth road. We faced many obstacles including finding a brick-and-mortar location, coming up with funds, and learning building codes in a new city.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a background in communication science disorders. I’m a speech pathologist. My husband has a background in engineering and construction. We are most proud of being the first in our families to start a successful business outside of our hometown. I think what sets us apart from most is that we’re not only husband and wife, we’re also best friends and business partners. Our differences make us so much stronger as business partners.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I wish I had a background in business administration. It would help eliminate a lot of trial and error we’ve been through. Also wish I had started on the entrepreneur journey earlier. I would advise others to follow a dream or an idea you have. There are people in the world who will support you more than you think.
