Check Out Nilla Allin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nilla Allin.

Hi Nilla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Nilla Allin, an artist, content creator and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, California. Writing has been a creative outlet for me ever since I was a child. When I was young, I’d spend my free time writing songs, raps, poems, stories and even movie scripts. In college, I began writing raps and songs in my free time to take my mind off the stress I was dealing with from school. My rap abilities started off as a secret, but as time went on, my friends started to become aware of my hidden talent. They pushed me to share my raps by posting them on social media. In 2019 I joined the “Thotiana challenge” and posted my first rap freestyle that ended up going viral across my social media platforms. As I started posting more videos, more and more people would ask where they could find my music. At this time, I wasn’t making music, I was only rapping for fun; but in 2020, I decided to take music seriously after graduating from the University of California, San Diego. Now with college out of the way, I had more time to write, release and record my music. Since I work a corporate job with a technical and analytical focus, I am always yearning for a creative outlet outside of work.

In 2020, I began creating TikToks and immediately started going viral for my creative comedy skits and goofy, personable personality. Everyone came to knew me from my comedy content, but I wanted to get my music more out there. I then decided create skits that promoted my own music, and those videos started to go viral. I became well known for marketing my own music in a unique and creative way. From 2020-2021, only one year of consistently making music, I was able to garnish over a million organic streams from my own music promotion. My large Tiktok and Instagram audience allowed opportunities for a plethora of partnerships and brand collaborations. With the income I make from social media and my corporate job, I have been able to take those funds and reinvest it into my music career. In May of 2022, I decided to leave my corporate job and finally go ALL IN on my creative talents. I’ve been consistently recently music for a full year and have seen so much growth since leaving my job! I’m finally able to focus all my attention on creating music and content.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The music industry comes with quite a few challenges. Not only is it tough being an Independent artist, but I find my biggest struggle is getting to the masses and reaching more my target audience. I’ve been seeing exceptional growth, but there have been a plethora of music executives who do not want to work with me because I refuse to bend my morals and values for wealth and fame. It’s also been hard building solid, trustworthy relationships in this industry. It seems as though everyone is in the business for themselves, people only befriend you because they know they can make money off of you; and if you do not follow their rules, they are gone. I’m very confident in my talent, so this doesn’t bother me. I’m willing to continue on my slow grind and put in the work to build a solid fan base who supports and accepts me for who I am.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a full-time content creator. A lot of people try to put me in a box with labels; in the past, I’ve been called a comedian, social media personality, artist, influencer, Youtuber, Tiktoker, actress, etc., but the truth is I can really do it all. I just enjoy putting content out for the world to interact with. I enjoy creating, and music is a medium of content that I create. I use to primarily be known for my Tiktok comedy skits, but now I am known primarily known for my music. I spent a long time trying to come up with ways to get my music more out there, and I am finally at the point in my career where my music is getting more talked about than my comedy content. I’m very proud of myself for this. I’m also very proud of the person I’ve become. Leaving my job was a very big and scary step for me; but I needed to do that in order to grow my career and my brand.

I would say my authenticity and relatability is what sets me apart from others. I am very transparent in my content, and I let my audience see both the good and the bad times. We don’t see a lot of artist broadcasting their come up, we typically just find out about them when they make it. However, when I finally make it, there will be SO MUCH CONTENT for people to look back on and they see how much work I’ve been putting in over the years. I have no interest in being the next trend, I’m taking the longer route because I’m putting in the work to building a loyal fan base.

Any big plans?
I’m currently going viral in South Africa, so a “South Africa” tour is definitely something I want to plan for the future. After my latest trip to Capetown, I released my latest project, “Thandeka”, that was inspired by my South African supporters. The numbers have been growing exponentially, and even hit the South Africa news headlines. I hope to go out there soon and perform some songs from my latest project!
