We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was living the classic struggling artist tale. Picture this: zero connections, zilch understanding of how to crack the music industry. I hit rock bottom, even ended up without a roof over my head. But here comes the twist – in the midst of all that chaos, I Google-mapped a local studio. I mean, we’re talking a good old 3-mile hike, all for a shot in the dark.
So, there I am, standing at the studio doors, pounding on them like I’m auditioning for a zombie apocalypse movie. And guess what? Fate introduces me to Yonni. Now, Yonni’s no small fry; he’s a hotshot producer behind hits for the big shots today. With a gulp of bravery, I pop the question: Can I record here? Surprise, surprise – he says yes, but only when the studio’s collecting dust.
Fasten your seatbelts, because here’s where luck takes the wheel. I find myself in these bizarre yet oddly inspiring situations. Picture this: sharing the stage with Talib Kweli, spitting rhymes on “Sway in the Morning,” and wait for it…bumping into Scooter Braun. Yeah, the Scooter Braun. I’ve got a rep for making music that’s all about the good vibes. But here’s the twist: every single one of my tracks, despite the catchy and uplifting beats, carries a hidden layer of melancholy. It’s like a secret ingredient I’ve added, drawn from the times when the word “ENJOY” was my lifeline through some of my darkest hours.
I’m talking about times when I was scraping to put food on the table and dabbling with stuff that only dragged me down a deeper hole. It’s crazy how that one word held me together during those moments. If things had gone a bit differently, that whole phase might have charted a totally new course for my life. I told myself if I don’t Enjoy the horrible times I can’t enjoy the great times.

Honestly, I’m not big on dishing out advice, but I’ll tell you this: the moment you release your grip on outcomes, that’s when the good stuff starts pouring in. I’m all about embracing the present and not fixating on the future. My focus is on the immediate next move, not the distant finish line. When I find contentment in what I’ve got, that’s when the floodgates open for more.
