Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Knight.
Hi Jack, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“I started my entrepreneurial journey as a food cart vendor on the streets of New York City. My uncle, who had just opened Aziza Pizza, a bakery and pizzeria, gave me his hot dog cart to help me get started. Before that, I sold a variety of products, including costume jewelry, sterling silver, women’s lingerie, and t-shirts, all to support my true passion for music. I was fortunate to have the support of my dad, Abraham, my Aunt Revil, and several friends who invested in my dreams. My love for songwriting, music production, and artistry eventually led me to work with some of the biggest labels, executives, and artists in the music industry.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As the teachings of Master Thich Nhat Hanh remind us, the one certainty in life is the experience of suffering. Regardless of our accomplishments or wealth, life will always present its challenges. However, nurturing and cultivating our creativity can serve as a guiding force in navigating the complexities of business and success.
Throughout my journey, I’ve faced numerous adversities, such as the loss of my mother and grandparents, the struggles within the music industry, and the difficult circumstances surrounding my songwriting partner’s incarceration. Despite these trials, I held tightly to the wisdom my mother instilled in me during my childhood in Brooklyn: “Never be a follower,” “Stay away from drugs,” and “Treat women fairly.” These three life lessons have served as my saving grace, even amidst the highs and lows of my career, including the times when I achieved great success and earned numerous platinum albums.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
“As a songwriter, my superpower lies in understanding what people want to hear, feel, and hope for. I see myself as a social scientist or cultural architect, using my gift to drive impact beyond music. My mission is to expand my expertise into Fintech, fashion, film, and renewable energy – sectors where I’ve already co-founded companies with partners Gerald Gill and Damali McDowell. By tapping into people’s needs, I believe I can contribute to shaping solutions that resonate with society. I’m envisioning a path similar to Magic Johnson’s, leveraging my influence to make a meaningful difference.”
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
“I’m a bit of a film and fashion history buff, with a soft spot for old Hollywood, French New Wave cinema, and iconic stars like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Lauren Bacall. I’m also the go-to comedian in my family, always trying to make people laugh. On the flip side, I’m a total nerd when it comes to investing – I’m a huge fan of Warren Buffett’s strategy and the wisdom of Charlie Munger.”
