Today we’d like to introduce you to Indee Ponce.
Hi Indee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Los Angeles about 7 years ago. Initially, I moved out here to pursue acting, but after going to several auditions and attending workshops, I realized that I was definitely not an actor, haha! I still decided to stay in LA and pursued modeling for a little bit while also working on music, a passion I have had for most my life. My first instrument was the clarinet, which I took up at age 11. Then, I graduated to alto sax and, shortly after that, picked up the guitar and began to teach myself piano. I had always had a strong desire to sing, though, but lacked the self-confidence to step up in front of a microphone to bare my heart and soul to the world. After about 2 years living in LA, I came across a flyer on Sunset Blvd that I ran into on my way to work as a bar back at The Electric Owl. The flyer had been placed there by two brothers from Ecuador, MX: they were looking for a vocalist to round out their rock band. The band was called The Darbies, and despite my misgivings about my own abilities as a singer I replied to the poster and went to an audition a few days later out in Sherman Oaks. We connected right away over conversations about music and ideology, and about a month later, I was boarding an international flight to Mexico City. We stayed out there for 4 months, playing almost every night anywhere we could and rehearsing during the day. The plan was to sharpen our teeth in a music scene outside of LA, then return to LA and climb our way to the top. When we got back, we filmed our first music video: End of The Love played a few shows at Harvard & Stone, Hotel Cafe, and a few other places. Within a short amount of time, we found our first manager, Michelle Needy, and she had us on a flight out to New York City to do a few rounds of venues out there. From all of this exposure we landed a touring spot opening up for LA Guns. We ended up doing 2 transcontinental tours with them before COVID hit. During the pandemic, the band kind of fell apart, and we lost our bass player. Unfortunately, he ended up moving back to Dallas, TX. With him gone and the music industry shut down, the band went on a hiatus until the end of December 2021. We got a new bass player and began playing LA with vengeance. And that brings us up to the present day. The pandemic kind of set us back a ways, so currently, we are in the studio recording new music, making up for lost time, while also playing frequently around the LA area. We have a brand-new track coming out in about a month on all major streaming platforms. But if you want an early sneak peek it is also up on our Patreon for all new subscribers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been easy or ever gone the way I expected it to. But at the end of the day, I’m alive doing what I love the most, and that’s all that matters. Hindsight is always 20/20, so looking back, the road all makes sense, and I just trust in that going forward, just have to stay passionate and driven, and it will all unfold how it’s supposed to
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a musician. What I’m most proud of at this moment is the handful of new songs my band and I have recorded. They will be coming out over the next few months on Spotify and iTunes. Make sure to keep your ears peeled!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes. Always be flexible, never be too rigid in your expectations cause everything could change in an instant, just like it did during the pandemic
