Check Out Hudson Mateus’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hudson Mateus.

Hi Hudson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Brazilian tattoo artist living now in Los Angeles. I’ve been tattooing for 12 years and I’m a truly lover of traditional tattoos.
Since I was a child I always loved art in its various versions. I’ve always been passionate about drawing and transforming that into tattoos felt like discovering my true direction.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started tattooing when I was 21. At that point, I already had many designs and ideas that I liked to explore on paper. The beginning was hard and difficult, because I lived in a small town. Making the decision to move to the capital of my state and invest in good equipment was essential for me to learn and evolve as a tattoo artist. It was like feeling at home. Coming to Los Angeles and exploring a new city, with new cultures has been a challenge and constant learning, the city is amazing And I feel that this makes everything worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Tattooer, my style and my heart belongs to traditional tattoos. It’s the style I’ve always loved and feel totally comfortable and inspired doing. I feel totally inspired by old 50’s flash, classic movies and art.
What sets me apart me from other artists I think is my ability to make customized works, which involve personal memories based on old photos, animals loved by the owners and reinterpretations of modernized traditional tattoo classics.

How do you think about luck?
I was always raised in a simple way and I had to persist and fight to achieve my goals. In several moments I really thought there was no luck for me, but I conclude that luck is the result of your dedication to what you love!
