Check Out Grey Coutts’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grey Coutts.

Hi Grey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I had no idea what I was going to do with my life. It felt like I was mediocre at everything. The art teachers started to notice me in high school. They would complement my work trying to get me to join the Art Honor Society, which I eventually did senior year.

I blindly took a digital art class and found out that it was fun and I was reasonably good at it. From there, I decided to major in graphic design not even knowing what it truly was.

It was at this point when the autopilot shut off and I started to awaken from the unconscious life that I was living.

In college, I ended up being a damn good designer and throughout out the process I discovered I was an expressive fine artist too. I found myself. I had a purpose.

Painting became a form of therapy for me. I was able to get the emotions out of my mind and onto the canvas by using color. It was very intense and I could not control it. With practice, I was able to add more intention into what I was doing and develop into the artist I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth. I believe everyone’s life is a series of ups and downs. Everyone battles that voice in their head and everyone has to try to silence the ego.

When I am making energy portraits live or doing a live performance at an event, I battle my ego/ mind the entire time.

It tells me:
“Who do you think you are painting someone’s energy?”
“This is horrible, they are going to hate it!”
“These colors make no sense.”
“You suck!”

It’s my job and duty to not let these little whispers interfere with the magick that is happening in front of me. I’m channeling source energy! There is no time for the ego to stop me!

In addition, it is also an amazing practice to train your mind to ignore the negative comments it says to you all day!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Right now, my main focus is abstract painting. I make original pieces but also make custom client pieces that I call “Energy Portraits.”

An Energy Portrait is a piece of art that visually represents the client vibrating at their highest frequency. It serves as a daily reminder to stay true to the intentions imprinted into the canvas and to maintain your highest frequency even when small things may push you out of alignment.

Basically, it’s a custom abstract vision board that looks like a piece of fine art on your wall. It holds a vibration of everything you want and desires so you can see it every day and be reminded of your power. Under all of the paint, we set intention with words written on the blank canvas which will sit there hidden under the color.

Being spiritually and energetically in tune with my surroundings, I am able to tap into the client’s energy. With this intel and a quick convo with the person vivid colors appear and we get to work.

The results have been amazing! The images in this article are all clients with their Energy Portrait next to them!

Check out how two of my client’s lives have transformed from this process in the interviews linked.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One lesson I have learned is to not get in your own way and to not let other people get in your way.

Working in the creative industry there have been many people who have pushed me down and limited me from creating at my full potential. It was so bad that I lost touch with who I was.

Throughout all of the experiences negative and positive, if you are able to believe in yourself, you will eventually find others who do.

If you have a passion, go for it. Just be smart, make sure you are able to still have a stable income and at the same time be able to fight for your dreams.
