Today we’d like to introduce you to Girlish Band.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We’ve been friends since middle school, we met through our school’s band. After we graduated high school, we started jamming with our friends. They had also played in the school band. The jams inspired us to eventually write something and record it on GarageBand at home. Then we decided we’d release it for fun on SoundCloud in 2017. It wasn’t really anything serious, but our friends in town liked it and we decided to keep making songs. Cut to now, we’ve been living in LA for a year and a half! We’ve started playing some cool shows and seeing some great growth since we’ve started releasing new music out here! Now we have a new project on the way, and we couldn’t be more excited!!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not been the smoothest, but we’ve had some great opportunities in the past year that we’re very grateful for. We have been steadily overcoming obstacles we had during our early days. Like most, we didn’t have the money or the know-how to make the songs sound the way we wanted them to. Everything was fully self-recorded and produced. Luckily, these days we’ve been working with our favorite producers, who have made our visions come to life. We’ve also been getting more love on the new releases, both online and in person at shows. Our main struggle today has been creating a team. It’s always been the two of us running everything, but with our recent developments, it’s been clear that we could use some help. It’s mainly about finding the right people now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a band! We make indie pop music, and that’s what we’re known for. Our band is a little fluid with genre, and our music is usually pretty dense and lush with harmony. We believe our many influences, our use of harmony, and our imagery is what sets us apart from others.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Work hard and be yourself.
