Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Nestor.
Hi Ethan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Back in 2012 at the age of 15, I started my channel CrankGameplays by making daily gaming videos. I played any game that interested me or was trending! Over the course of the years, I grew my audience, met new people, and gained new skills. After moving out to Los Angeles in 2016 to work as an editor for Markiplier, my audience grew at a rapid pace until I was able to do YouTube for myself as my full-time job. After a couple of years of making content on my own, Mark and I joined up again to create Unus Annus: a channel that would make one video a day, every day, for one year until the channel’s deletion (and everything on it) a year later.
Shortly after, I started to have feelings of incompletion; like I hadn’t yet made something myself that I was truly proud of. Out of fear of failure, I had failed to complete many projects that I wanted to finish, which left me feeling as more of a failure, despite many of my achievements along the years. After years of wanting to, I finally decided to do a Live Show Tour, written completely by myself. I created a show that I then toured across the continental US and Canada. It was a very large success to myself, which then led to the completion of the documentary about the tour, “I Have To Do This.”
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of my tour. It was something that was really created from my heart and something that was extremely personal. It highlighted my struggles with becoming a creator and wanting to continue to create new and thought-provoking videos.
How do you define success?
Success is a very hard thing to define and something that I think changes depending on the time and the person. To me, success is when you strive to create something or do something great, overcome obstacles, and become better, whether for yourself or others. Success, I feel like, is something that is constantly moving. For me, once I achieve something, it’s onto the next thing. Which has become a very big part of my anxiety and daily struggle. Finding success is something that is constantly moving. Sometimes, it seems like something that isn’t achievable.
